I want to make youtube videos for DIY projects and fashion, etc. What kind of camera so I need? A simple pocket camcorder or something bigger with a tripod?

You should invest in a Canon Rebel T3, T3i or T4i. Search youtube for reviews on that. If thats not what you're looking for, try the Sony Cyber shot Dsc-5100

I've read a lot of reviews about different webcams, but I'm still confused.I guess I need recommendations based on a personal experience.

Be advised that you aren't restricted to only webcams. If the drivers are available for your system (Macs don't have the problem, but Windows machines do.) Many camcorders have either a Firewire or USB cable that can tie them to a computer. Any decent camcorder will have better video than the best webcam. Mount it on a small tripod so it points at you from just above, or to the side of your monitor and you're in business. I use a Sony Handicam with great results.
Be advised that some "chat" sites only support specific models of cameras. Check the sites you want to use to see if you can use any or only specific models.
