Best Camcorder for vlogging?

Q. I would like it to be something new 2011/2012 and nothing too expensive. I want to vlog inside and outside. Also maybe something that can film sports such as football and motorcross.
Thanks for the answers! :)

Answer
Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

Camcorder help? External mic?

godzilla53

I am very frustrated: My birthday is coming up (today is april fools 2011, my b'day is 5/30). I want an hd camcorder (i will take movies of EVERYTHING: me drumming, i will bring camcorder to New York Rangers games, me making comedies with friends, my baseball games, my hockey games, EVERYTHING). I want FULL hd (1080p). I need pretty good zoom, and a port for an external mic. My birthday list is as follows:
Olympus camera = 267.99$
Archos 4.3 android mp3 player = 130$
External mic = 22.11$
HD camcorder = ??
TOTAL MUST BE <540$ (540$ or below)
With the things i listed, it all equals 420$, which gives me little spending money for camcorder (but i am unwilling to take away money on the camera, and i already bought the archos, as my ipod broke). It gives me about 120$ for a camcorder. I don't care if it is used, refurbished, etc. I don't care if went through the pits of hell, as long as it is in great condition when i get it. I can't seem to find ANY camcorders <300 with an external microphone port. Well, that makes my job A LOT harder! Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
THE CLOCK IS TICKING ;)
PS: It must have the body of a videocamera: NOT the body of a flip, Kodak zi8, etc. I will NOT accept a rectangular piece of shit (i don't care if the video quality of those little rectangles are great, they have no zoom and no low light performance!). I don't REALLY care about low light performance that much.
THANKS
@Palidin... Thanks! I will most likely get that (i've seen that on amazon, but hesitated because it looks kinda weird :D) If you are a witness of its quality, than who am i to say otherwise? BUT, does it have a place to hitch an external mic on it? I understand that it has the appropriate port for a mic, but can it hold it so the camera man doesn't have to?
thanks for your answers!! I really appreciate it!
ok, one thing i found out about that canon: its not HD. Is there a difference between High Definition and Standard Definition? I mean a difference that makes it worth it for me to save up my money for an HD camcorder rather than the canon Standard Definition camcorder.

Answer
You would need $3500 in order to buy a HD camcorder that could get any where near the video quality of a $300 MiniDV tape camcorder. A HD camcorder is a disaster as sports videos.

You go visit here http://www.amazon.com/Canon-ZR930-1-07MP-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B00114163O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301702929&sr=8-1-spell.

The Canon ZR 930 is a MiniDV tape camcorder with a Mic jack, you can attach a Mic, mixer or music making device to this camera easily. I own a Canon ZR500, ZR800 and a ZR930. I have shot weddings with them, clients loved the Video Quality they got back.

Good camera/camcorder under $100 on amazon?

Q. For my YouTube prank series. So I would need a tripod too so try to stay under $80 for the camera. Some of the ones I was looking at are the bloggy and playfull. Only amazon because I have gift cards. Links welcome

Answer
Hi Jake:

There really aren't any "good" camcorders for under $100, unless you find one of the discontinued Kodak PlaySport or PlayFull models that you've been looking at. (Kodak stopped making cameras and camcorders last year, but dealers still have some in stock. My favorites are the Zx3 & Zx5 which are available for between $69-$99 from closeout stores & online dealers with leftover stock.)

I haven't read as many good reviews of the Sony Bloggies as I have for the Kodak camcorders, and since the Kodaks are typically selling for half of their original list price, you get more-bang-for-your-bucks.

I don't like posting links for Amazon sellers (they spam Yahoo!Answers too much), so I'll let you do your own Amazon.com link searches. You should be competent enough to do your own shopping.

If you want to "stretch your gift card dollars", consider buying a used camcorder from a trusted Amazon seller.

Video is a "get what you pay for" proposition, so don't set your quality expectations too high for the little money you wish to spend.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Are GoPro cameras only useful for people who do extreme sports?

Q. I'm looking for an affordable video camera that shoots HD and the GoPro is nice. It is small, affordable and is very popular.

But it doesnt have a screen to see what youre filming.

I just want something I can make high quality videos with. The most extreme way I would use it is for longboarding.

Any other suggestions if the GoPro isnt suited for me?

Answer
They are not a practical camera for all the reasons already listed in your previous answer. They are great for mounting on something.

Best camera to buy for Extreme sports recording?

Q. I currently record video on a Bridge camera but am looking to move up to a better camera as the video quality can be grainy, I record extreme sports so the camera needs to have high resolution, be able to attach fisheye lenses, i am looking along the lines of handycams (i.e. camcorders) and Dslr cameras, but am stuck with no idea of what to get. Preferably it should have hot shoe mounts built in, be light etc, and if it is a Dslr, it should obviously have video function, thanks in advance!

Answer
Go Pro 3 would be the best for extreme sports because it can go underwater and has an unbreakable case. Records in amazing quality and is only 200 dollars.

KODAK Zi8 Pocket Video Camera or Flip Video Camcorder?

M.M.

Which one is better for a sixteen year old?

Answer
Flip MinoHD Camcorder 2nd Generation, 120 Minutes (Brushed Metal) NEWEST MODEL
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002R5AM7C?tag=dcmb-20

REVIEW :
This Flip MinoHD camcorder is amazing-- the ideal thing for any family hoping to videotape the kids, friends, events, etc. First of all, it's completely idiot proof: when you get the box, there is absolutely no assembly required. Your first guess about which buttons are the power switch, record button, and USB connector release will be correct; great intuitive design. The device looks and feels great (as other reviewers have mentioned) and easily fits in your hand comfortably for long periods of time (unlike my blackberry). It turns on and off instantly (unlike my home computer or cell phone) so you don't have to wait long to start recording that precious, fleeting moment.

The screen is a bit larger than the previous Flip Mino, but that's not a big deal. Image quality is better than ever, and not too shaky/bouncy. The USB connector is about the same-- still very convenient, easy to connect, and you don't have to go running to find any special USB connector cable (like my old digital camera). The audio is surprisingly good, picking up faint background sounds that I hadn't even noticed at the time of recording and picking up simultaneous music and voices, near and far, with great quality. The 2-hour battery life is more than I ever use, so it's great, but I figure people who are videotaping entire concerts or watching grass grow might complain. Honestly I haven't made use of the HD resolution, but I'm sure that will be fantastic when I start making my own rainforest nature shows. In the meantime, the HD quality is better than anything I'll ever need. By the way, I know other reviewers have said they can make the camcorder freeze up by zooming in or out during recording, but mine works fine even when I do that. (I purposely tried to freeze it, but couldn't.)

I saved the best for last: the Flip Video software. That's what made it even more impressive! It is ridiculously easy to setup, automatically starts when I plug in the camcorder, and makes it completely obvious how to download the videos, play back, freeze frames to make photos, and share. And it's fast-- not much waiting for videos to load up (like other video players). It's all in an easy-to-use, well-organized (by video date) layout very similar to the iPod control panel (a common comparison, it seems). I wish all software was this easy to use.

How to upload videos from Kodak PlaySport Camcorder?

Q. I can't figure it out! I plugged it in with the USB cord and nothing came up. Then I tried inserting the memory card but nothing came up! How come it won't read?

Answer
Hi, Kodak palysport camcorder shoot videos in mov format. You can play it on quicktime but cannot import playsport video to windows media player or real player. You need a video converter to convert kodak playsport video to other popular formats more friendly to windows such as wmv, mpg.

Recommend you a professional kodak video converter which can help you to convert playsport video to other popular formats with just a few mouse click at high speed.

BTW, Realplayer is for rm, rmvb, windows media player is for wmv, avi, mpg formats. You may download the trial version for evaluation. Hope it can help you.

Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera Bundle?

Q. I Heard This Was A Good Package Is It Better Than the Flip Cameras that Are Currentlty Our now..I wll be purchasing it in 2 days..

Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera Bundle

Answer
It may or not be a good deal, depending on what is included and what you may or may not need. The PlaySport alone sells for about $140.00 to $150.00 (depending on who is selling it). If you add in the accessories included in the particular package, there may be a little savings. Some accessories are off-brands, like an extra memory card or an extra rechargeable battery. I would prefer a known brand as a cheap off-brand memory card for example may not meet industry standards and thus be sub par. Batteries are a hit and miss as many off-brands work just fine. Most of the packages include a table-top tripod. That is something very useful as many videos shot hand-held can be very shaky and unappeasing to your viewers. So a tripod is always a good tool. Also many packages included a camera case which is nice to have. But you may want a bigger one if you want to carry extra accessories when you are out shooting video as some cases are too small to fit much in besides the camera. Buying as a package is a great way to give as a gift. That way the person receiving such a gift will have more than just the camera to start with.

I have a few questions about getting a camcorder.?

princessdf

Basically I want to be able to video tape events (son's school plays, church stuff, etc..) and easily convert it to DVD to be viewed on a TV.

If I get a digital video camera, how easy is it to convert my footage from the camera to a DVD? I have a DVD player that can record onto DVD's.

Do digital video cameras also take still pictures?

What is the typical amount of time I can record for before I run out of space?

Would i be better off with a DVD camcorder?

Answer
easily convert it to DVD to be viewed on a TV.
RESPONSE: "Easily" is relative. I think it is easy to capture video, transfer to a computer, edit, add transitions, special effects and credits - but you may not think so. Once you have done it a couple of times, it is easy.

If I get a digital video camera, how easy is it to convert my footage from the camera to a DVD? I have a DVD player that can record onto DVD's.
RESPONSE: It depends on the DVD recorder you have - but read through its manual. Typically, the DVD recorder will have a Firewire/DV/IEEE1394/i.Link (all the same thing) port that connects to the DV port of a miniDV tape based camcorder. Also, any camcorder has analog AV-out to connect to the DVD recorder. So yes, this can be easy to do, but generally, that means you will not be editing at all.

Do digital video cameras also take still pictures?
RESPONSE: Many do - but they typically do not provide high resolution stills like a still camera does. If you think this is the way to proceed, be sure the camcorder you get uses a memory stick or memory card for storing stills. When you decide on a camcorder - DO NOT buy it. Go to the manufacturer's web site, get to the Support area and down load the manual. Read through the manual to see what the camcorder's capabilities are. Video cameras do video well - and stills not so well and sometimes do not do stills at all. Still cameras do stills well, and video not so well and sometimes do not do video at all.

What is the typical amount of time I can record for before I run out of space?
RESPONSE: It is recommended to stay in high quality mode - otherwise, read the camcorder's manual as there are generally tables in there that list recording time. DO NOT BUY A DVD based camcorder unless you do not want to edit - ever. If you want to edit on your computer or share with family/friends or upload, DVD based camcorders typically provide the most challenges.
DVD based: 20 minutes; carry extra blank miniDVDs.
Hard drive based: Depends on the size of the internal hard drive.
Flash memory based: depends on the memory cards/memory sticks used. Carry extras.
MiniDV tape based: 60 or 80 minutes per tape; carry extra tapes. They are cheap. MiniDV tape provides best available video quality of all the available video storage methods.

Would i be better off with a DVD camcorder?
RESPONSE: PLEASE do not buy a DVD based camcorder

Samsung Galaxy SII Vs Google Nexus Prime?

dkr_316

Hi... I want to buy a smart phone but I'm confused between Galaxy SII and Google Nexus Prime. I've seen tech specs of both the phones and I'm impressed by both but I can't buy two smart phones you see. So please tell me which would be the better phone among both.

And I've also heard that Samsung is about to release Galaxy SIII soon. So should I wait for some time till SIII gets released or should I buy a phone right now???

If you know the release date of Galaxy SIII then please let me know...

Thanks...

Answer
For this question, it depends completely on how bad and more importantly how soon you need a phone. The Samsung Galaxy SIII is rumored to sport 2GB of ram instead of 1GB, a 12 megapixel camera with a better lens of course, front facing camera better than the current version, a Super Amoled Plus HD display packing over 387 ppi, a Samsung 4412 chip set-which by the way is a quad core processor- that clocks at 2.0 GHZ, a 4.65 edge to edge display, LTE call quality and download speeds and of course running on android 4.0 Ice Cream. These are just a few specs. The Samsung Galaxy SIII will be announced at the CES conference in February next year, 2012. I have also heard that if they dont chose a quad-core chip set, they may just run a dual core 1.8GHZ Samsung exynos processor. I personally have chosen to wait for the Samsung galaxy SIII.I do want a new phone. But the cost of jumping or suspending contracts and trying to keep up with the latest cell phone is a luxury many cannot afford. My contract expires on the eve of the supposed realese date of this phone, so Im geeked! If you want the best, then just wait for it. But it will be again the best android phone on the market when it releases.

You have to wonder what platform they trying to lay out with a quad-core phone? The only reason we need dual core chipset phones right now are for capturing 1080p video. THATS IT!. Sure, we can surf, process and download info alot quicker than before, but its not generally needed. The additional cores and ram may serve for more demanding options and features in a phone like shooting 60 fps instead of 30fps which are in current dual core phones right now, creating a more media-like friendly phone or trying to fully incorporate your phone into your computer and various computer programs on your computer-all while your phone acts like a phone. The play field is open. But just like a car, with more power comes more demand for fuel or better fuel engineering. Im hoping that power management will be heavily revised in a phone that has 4 chipsets while operating on a LTE network. If the battery life on this upcoming quad core chipset phone acts anything like the available HTC dual core cell phones, its main audience will be hard core sammy fans. Carrying around a phone that dies 3hours just in standby mode is depressing. But Samsung does there homework pretty darn well.

Dude, just wait. Its so worth it

Mac compatible camcorders?

saullyy

I'm looking for a camcorder that is fully compatible with mac/iMovie 11.

I have been looking for ages at the Panasonic HDC-HS80 but some people have said they are having problems with panasonics.

I have already checked the compatibility chart. I just want to know if anyone is using a good quality camcorder that works with iMovie with no problems
I'm using a Macbook Pro with 4GB Ram and OS X 10.6.8

Answer
I have used:
Sony HDR-HC1
Sony HDR-FX1
Sony HVR-A1
Sony HVR-Z5
Canon Elura60
Canon HF S100
Canon XHA1
Panasonic AG-DVX100
Panasonic AG-HVX200

.... and several other camcorders on many different Macs - including my current iMac running iMovie '09 and iMovie '11 (though I much prefer FinalCut - and all these camcorders and more work with it, too)...

What you did not tell us is which Macintosh you are using. Amount of RAM in the computer, OSX version and Macintosh model would be required before any definitive answer could be provided to you.

Is the Kodak Playsport compatible with iMovie 11?

Q.

Answer
Kodak video is quicktime which is Mac compatible including iMovie.
Kodak is what i use every day but not for video. Kodak invented the camcorder in 1981 so they should be considered inferior to the companies that just started putting that feature in their cameras. Had Kodak invented the CCD instead of the camcorder, like RCA then they would still be in business. Oops take that either way. The main problem is made in America doesn't mean much to photographers, Japan is King.

Best Camcorder for my price range as of 6/9/2011?

sinfullsta

As of June 9, 2011, what is the best camcorder for around $300, give or take $50.

Keep in mind:
-No flip cameras please
-I am an amateur film maker
-I want to shoot music videos
-Shoot short films
-Even in the hands of the shakiest person, the film is still smooth, and clear.
-Able to shoot in very lowlight areas
-Please tell me if the camera you suggested has a mic input or not

I was looking at the Samsung HMX-H300, but give me your opinions on what you think the best camera that's bang for my buck. (as of today)
I forgot to add:
-If the camcorder has the ability to take pictures, it's a plus. (Not needed though)

Answer
Consumer level HD camcorders have 3 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes - all times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic jack. You need a firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer. To say this is not HD, think about this. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $250 Canon MiniDV tape camcorder.

How good is the quality of Mini Dv camcorders?

mike9626

I'm just looking for a pretty basic camcorder. Is the picture clear with the Mini DV camcorders? I've heard that it's at least equal to or better than VHS movies, which for home videos is not so bad.

Answer
don't let the "mini" fool you, it is a tape system far superior VHS. The mini refers to the size of the cassette as DV comes 2 sizes, regular and mini. The regular size was never popular, but the mini size is perfect for camcorders. The DV tape system is widely used by television stations because it is smaller, lighter and better resolution than betacam. The only drawback is they did not make a home deck version for playback as DVD became the replacement for VHS rental movies. you playback directly from the camcorder or load into a computer for burning a DVD.

What is the difference between digital camera and Camcorder in the context of still picture issue?

Robin

Actually i want better still picture + better video quality. but i m confused about that things. i want 2 buy camcorder bcoz its provide both feature. so which one is useful for me digital camers or Camcorder in still picture issue. is this the same quality between camcorder and digital cam.

Answer
No its not the same quality. Buy a digital camera, not a digital camcorder. Still frames of camcorders are horrible quality and only look good when played with other frames. What I would do is buy a camcorder and a digital camera. If you just want video then buy a camcorder, but for pictures, the camera is the best thing!

Whats the best camcorder? (for a certain price!)?

okay i have a Canon PowerShot A560 and the recording is pretty good but when i put it on youtube it looks terrible. so i want to get a new camera soon.

What is the best video camcorder in HD, that i can put on YouTube, edit in Windows Movie Maker, and is 200$ or UNDER? thanks!

Answer
I use this camcorder for person/professional use although I am thinking of upgrading to something a bit more expensive. I love every aspect of it: full hd video, touch panel, easy to upload videos to youtube & facebook, face detection, mp3 recording, and a ready to use wifi:

If you are looking for a cheaper one, I have heard some really nice things about this one:

If you are looking for a more traditional camcorder, this one is great for its price:

I strongly recommend you get the first one I linked to because it's simply too good to be true for that price and I'm sure you'll love it. Hope this helped!

Recommendations for digital camcorder and editing software?

Rake

I wanted to get myself a digital camcorder and some editing software to teach myself how to use the camera and do some editing. I'm most interested in set-ups where the audio can be recorded separately from the picture.

Any suggestions on a decent, cost-effective first camera and software program? I'm talking about very simple editing, cutting, dissolving, blackouts, maybe wipes, dubbing, etc.

Answer
For the camera:

Whats your budget first? 35mm cameras would give you that genuine "film look". Otherwise, you could buy an HD camcorder to give you the most detail.

For an editing suite:

Sony Vegas if you can't afford these three: Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop.

Sony Vegas targets amateur video editors and hobbyists due to its very wide range of features that includes editing and effects production. Buy this all in one package - it is average.

Adobe Premiere is a specialized tool for video EDITING.. Sequencing of shots can be done here.

Adobe After Effects is a specialized tool for video EFFECTS! Don't expect to find a lot of presets for After Effects. The learning curve can be quite steep though. Create your own effects here

Photoshop is an excellent tool for still images :)

If you have a MAC.. ditch the adobe and go for Final Cut Pro - which is basically not that different (adobe premiere's initial coder and Final Cut Pro's initial creator are closely related toeach other :) )

NOTE: If you have a good computer, none of these programs would crash. I have not experienced crashing from any of these programs in our workspace. Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, Flash, and also Dreamweaver together were open and none crash as I used them on one computer.

In summary:

Get:

1. A Camcorder

2. A Tripod

3. A good computer

4. An Editing suite

5. A monitor calibration device - you don't want the color of your video to be slightly different from the one shown in your TV :)

very hard problem with my camcorder and video editing software!?

jman

ok i will make a clip on my camcorder and will upload it to just a file on my computer.then when i go to play the video windows media player is playing it and you can hear the sound of the video perfectly. then when i go to my video editing software and import the same clip, you can see the video but can't hear the sound. Also when i go on my soft ware and right click on the clip and go to properties and when i look at audio, it says nothing, What do i do?

Answer
You did not tell us which camcorder you are using.

You did not tell us which video editor you are using.

You need to transcode the video file to a format your video editor can deal with. MPEG Streamclip
http://www.squared5.com/
can do that job - there are lots of pthers applications that can, too.

MovieMaker likes WMV files. iMovie likes MOV and MP4 files.

HOPE I COULD HELP

why does my Riviera 720p HD Camcorder say out of memory!?!?!?!?!?! ASAP?

Q. My new dxg blue with little blue sprinkles says memory full with a brand new memory card what the heck!!! i need help pronto!!! My sisters wedding is tomorrow and i must record it. so hurrry!!! 10 points to the first one with a uber awesome answer!! hurrrrrrrrry hurrrrrry hurrrrrrry!!!!

Answer
Does your camcorder have internal memory? If it does, it will be very small and maybe that is what you have used up. Refer to your manual.

Your new card might be corrupt or just bad. Have you tried it in any thing else?

Also you should format the card in the camcorder before you use it.

Make sure you are using the right card, example, if you put a 16G card in and your camera doesn't take 16G.
