Which digital camera?

M K

I am looking to purchase a digital camera, which will be used to photograph youth sporting events and posted on our league website. I am looking to spend around $200, and I am looking for the camera to be able to take clear action shots from a relatively close range. I would also like the ability to record video as well. Reviews seem all over the place for the ones I have checked out (Nikon Coolpix, Kodak Easyshare, etc...).

Any suggestions would be of huge help!

Thank you.

Answer
When purchasing any electronic device on a budget it is important to shop around and do as much research as possible this way you ensure you get not only the best quality product but also the best price.

Personally I recommend taking a look at the following digital camera models

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W530 14.1 MP Digital Camera - http://electronicsreviews4u.com/budget-digital-cameras/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-w530-14-1-mp-digital-camera

Nikon COOLPIX L24 14 MP Digital Camera - http://electronicsreviews4u.com/budget-digital-cameras/nikon-coolpix-l24-14-mp-digital-camera

If neither of these cameras meet your needs etc you might find something you like out of this selection of budget point and shoot digital camera reviews, I have also found that all reviews from this site are written in easy to understand terms and most importantly always gets straight to the important points

Selection of Budget Digital Camera Reviews - http://electronicsreviews4u.com/budget-digital-cameras/blog

I hope this helps you with your purchase and good luck :)

Where can I get a decent digital video camera for under $50?

Simon

I'm looking for a decent digital video camera for under $50, cause I ain't made of money.. Any ideas??

Answer
HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

Which of the canon vixia camcorders has good battery life. Preferably under 500 USD.

Answer
My ZR Canon series camcorder, using a BP2L12 battery, can record 2 X 1 1/2 hour tapes. 3 hours in total. Anything above that and I use hydro, either from my portable device or a wall socket See what i use here - http://asimplelife.ca/power.html Use a MiniDV tape camcorder as they have the best quality video of all media storage types. And get a camera with a Mic Input jack, you will want better audio than the 5 foot good audio zone most camcorders have.

what compact video camcorder has the longest battery life?

boobacachu

Answer
The battery life depends on lots of factors, such as use of LCD, zoom, auto-focus, etc. Most standard batteries that are included with camcorders last about 1 hour. For extended recording time, you can purchase high capacity batteries.

best camera and camcorders?

Jared R

i am looking for a great digital pocket camera or pocket camcorder under $300 plz help
hey pey what do you thinkof the olypus cameras

Answer
I like Canon cameras/camcorders and have the least expensive Canon Camcorder that does great video. Cameras take great pictures, but not great video.

Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $149.99 at Best Buy store yesterday.
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

In new cameras, look for optical viewfinders (LCD invisible in bright sun) and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of big pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.

Can you record good quality videos for youtube with a Cannon Powershot 14.1 MP Camera?

Samanthaa.

I'm planning on starting a youtube channel and to record, I have a Cannon camera that's for 14.1 MP. Can I record GOOD quality videos with it? I know, well I'm learning how to edit videos with movie maker and sony vegas. Here's a link to the camera.http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-a2200-blue/4505-6501_7-34468797.html

Answer
If you want to use a combination still / video camera I would recommend a Canon dslr camera, perhaps the t3. This camera will have a larger sensor than a bridge camera, which you now have, and will therefore give you better results.

Learning to edit? Well that's a skill that take a while to master. I know because I did a career in broadcast television and one of my functions was to edit video for news and sports. Editing, that is good and proper editing, is a valued skill and should always be done with your viewer in mind.

Too many people edit for themselves and then wonder why viewers don't like what they've done - duh!
Two important things about shooting for public consumption: Shoot for the editor, edit for your viewer.

I'm retired now but still pretty active with video. Here's what I'm getting with my Canon dslr. I edit
with Video Pad by NCH software, far easier to use than Sony. And since Movie Maker won't do
mov format video your only choice is an outside editor. Good luck

Finding a camera?

peytonh

I need help finding a digital camera that has good sound when taking videos. I go to a lot of concerts and the sound on the videos of the bands always sucks.

So does anyone know of a good camera with quality sound?

Answer
I own the canon sd750, and I love it compared to the previous cameras that I have owned. I bought it because of the high review rates for the price of $279. It has 7.1 megapixels and has a rechargable battery. One of the many great features is it takes 1 second to turn on, and your ready to take a picture, so you can almost instintly take a picture, once you know your subject. It also has great features like color accent mode (accents one color and the rest is black and white) or color switch mode.

You can also use a sd card and it can hold well over 1,000 pics with a 2 gig SD card. It can aso take well over 20min of video with the same card, the video quality is really good, 30 frames per second, and the sound quality is really good, but the problem is, if your going to a concert the camera will pick up every little sound, but thats how it is with most cameras. But this card can cost about $45. The camera itself is really small and thin, for all the features it has. You can download pics and video to your computer by using mini usb cable included with the camera. Overall I think this camera would be perfect for tourism, sport events, events, and protraits.

We love our Sony Handycam. I bought it for $350 at Costco (because you can return it there with your receipt if it breaks, even if it's five years later).

It records on mini-DVDs so you can play them back on your home DVD player or easily transfer them to the computer.

I highly recommend it.

Camcorders?

Sperminato

I want to make a video and put music and different effects on it, but i don't want it too be too pricey. Do you know of any which would do that?

Answer
The Canon DC220is a respectable entry-level DVD camcorder sporting familiar specs and features: a single 1/6 CCD, electronic image stabilization, a 2.7â LCD, and a modest but effective array of manual controls. In many respects, the camcorder is identical to last yearâs DC100 , which turned in entry-level performance, but an improved joystick placement and 35x optical zoom have sweetened the pot. Having just come off of the DC50 review, our hopes were high that Canon could coax some great performance all the way down to their entry level. It didnât. And while this does not seem a candidate for best low-end DVD camcorder of the year, but there may be enough here to catch the interest of buyers in this price range.

The Front (5.0)
The Canon DC50 has a tall, slender figure. The entry-levelness of it is apparent from the front. Take a closer look and youâll realize that the DC220 (Review, Specs, $318) lacks a flash or video light, and it features a small lens with no threads for a filter. The 35x optical zoom lens is capable of the following focal lengths:
- 2.6-91mm
- 45.8-1603mm (16:9 movies, EIS on),
- 41.0-1435mm (16:9 movies, EIS off),
- 49.8-1743mm (4:3 movies),
- 43.6-1526mm (still images).

The DC220 (Review, Specs, $318)âs built-in stereo microphone is located below the lensâa position we prefer over top-mounted mics, which are susceptible to sound muffling due to cramped finger placement.

The Right Side (3.75)
Thereâs not much to speak of here, either. Canonâs infamous elongated, oval hand strap is not particularly comfortable. Itâs low strung and therefore the DC220 (Review, Specs, $318) will flop to the side in your hand unless the strap is ratcheted tightâjust make sure you donât sacrifice circulation for grip. Note to Canon: Please revamp your hand strapsâtake heed from Sony.

The round DVD disc hatch is solidly constructed and has a quick response time when ejected. The tape hatch opens to an approximate 50 degree angle, and it has a small finger groove inside for removing a disc. The round DC in-jack is located at the bottom rightâan odd placement that is prone to an accidental yanking.

Is it better to use manual or auto settings on a wedding video?

UnceasingF

I have been doing wedding videos for a couple years, but now I have some serious equipment and am charging serious fees. I have an XHA1 and a handheld HD camera. Would it be better for me to adjust everything manually (fstop, shutter, white balance, focus) or for something like a wedding where you are constantly moving around, lighting is always changing, etc, is it better to rely on the auto settings to get it right. I've been dismayd a few times in the past when the my shot was ruined because I got the settings wrong. Anyone out there a pro, I'd love to get your advice.

Answer
I would definately go with the manual controls. When shooting something such as a wedding, you cannot rely on the automatic functions. I do not think manually setting the white balance should be any problem when moving around, unless you constantly change light sources- fluorescent, incandescent, outdoor, etc, but I do not think that will be the case. Just set white balance before you start and you should be good. White balance is not nearly as good on auto mode, especially when you are shooting into light sources. Auto white balance can be problematic when shooting indoors next to a bright window, the camcorder will set it to outdoor light, and throw you off!

For manual focus, I always keep in on manual. Especially with a camcorder as good as the Canon XH-A1, it should be easy focus quickly. Manual focus can be crucial because for one thing, auto does not always utilize the full potential of your camcorder's picture quality (which in your case is important), but more importantly, you could shoot hours of irreplaceable footage to later find out that the camcorder's auto mode was focusing on the wrong thing!! This is particularly important with many subjects at different distances from the camcorder. However, auto focus is usually not bad, and can be very helpful in hectic situations, which may be the case. If you do decide to go with auto, I do advise that you try to turn your aperture to a high f-stop, because the higher the f-stop, the greater the depth of field, meaning, more subjects will be within your depth of field. Take caution though, a higher f-stop means a smaller iris, meaning your picture may be dark, so try and find a happy medium.

Regarding Aperture/ Exposure, I would probably keep that on manual as well. Like the white balance, you would probably only need to set it once, making sure everything you need is properly lit. You may need to tweek it if lighting varies, but I cannot see a wedding hall having drastic changes in light- that may be the case though.
The auto aperture is usually quite good, but I try to avoid it indoors. It can totally mess you up when shooting a subject infront of a bright window; the camcorder will properly expose the window light, making your subject WAY too dark.

I don't see why you would need to adjust shutter speed, unless you notice your subjects blur to much, and in that case, make it faster, or if you need to make the scene brighter to compensate for a high f-stop, and in that case, make it a slower shutter speed. However, I would NEVER use a shutter speed slower than about 1/30 of a second, unless it is for the affect. Once again, if you want to bother with shutter speed, it is easy, and you probably won't need to fiddle with it all throughout the shoot. I would stick with 1/60th or 1/90th of a second to be safe- you can go a bit higher if it is outdoors, and a little lower if your picture is too dark.

In conclusion, I would most definately manually control white balance, and aperture (or f-stop), I would consider shutter speed, and manual focus is completely preference and I will leave it to you to consider the pros and cons I have previously addressed. These are simply recommendations, so use what you want, or totally disregard it if you want. Good Luck and have fun!!!!

camcorder with external mic jack?

Anyone know of a camcorder with flash memory (internal or external) that has an external mic jack in the under $200 price range?

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic jack. You will need a firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer. To say this is not HD, think about this. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $250 Canon MiniDV tape camcorder.

Is there a digital video camera that is simple and records in 1080p?

Jacob

I am looking to buy a video camera. I don't want anything that over does it. It should be cheap-ish. I don't want a ton of different options just a simple camera that does hd.
I am looking into doing music. so I record my songs but don't have a video to go with it. What's a good song without a good video right? So it doesn't have to do the whole super fast sports thing...just a good HD camera.

Answer
well you should be more specific as to what your using it for. For example, for me I use a camera for snowboarding and other outdoor sporty things so i got a GoPro HD Hero. It is full 1080p recording with 5mp still photos. It is by far the best camera for hd recording for action sports.

Do all camcorders have a viewfinder?

VintageMus

Sounds like a stupid question, but when buying on line a photo is never shown of the back of camcorder. Plus sooo many point and shoots single shot cameras in last 7 or 8 years are not made with a viewfinder. I appreciate your help.

Answer
all camcorders come with a viewing device of some sort. the original Video8 camcorder did not have an electronic viewer, it was optical, like SLR cameras. that also meant it couldn't play back tapes either, you needed a separate VCR for that. that was over 30 years ago. since then all consumer camcorders have an electronic viewer. i think you mean a CRT EVF versus and LCD display. the CRT viewers on consumer camcorders were discontinued about 10 years ago, although they continue to be used on many professional cameras. one reason for their unpopularity was they were not color. only a B/W CRT has sufficient resolution for critical manual focus adjustment. in consumer cameras, especially HD versions, automatic focus eliminated the need for a high resolution display. the only fault with LCD displays currently is they sometimes "washout" in bright sunlight. you can fix that by shading them when needed. a really big plus for LCD is the swing out display can be rotated to the front so you can see yourself when on camera.

as to P&S digital cameras, the live view has many advantages over optical such as preview of lighting conditions and ability to review previous taken shots. and again, since focus is automatic, a high resolution display is not essential, particularly in P&S cameras. some dSLRs offer optical for manual focus purposes which makes sense. But when a dSLR is in video mode, you must use the live view anyway, so advantage lost.

Is B&H Photo-Video a reliable source to buy a camcorder?

Gern

I am looking to purchase a high end camcorder and I'm thinking about B&H Photo-Video. I am in California and would have to purchase online but their prices are really good and want to make sure they're reliable before making a big purchase like this. Are they good?

Answer
100% YES, from personal experience. They are among the best in the industry, very well-respected here in New York. I go there all the time whenever I need anything; it's like being a kid in a candy store.

Their prices are so good because they are so darned big; they're not like some other shady Internet sites that ship you defective or grey-market goods. B&H does it the right way.

I have never had a problem with them, except for one minor issue with a software version; they ended up accepting my return with no problem.

Definitely go for it, and buy with confidence. They're the go-to guys here in New York, and the same holds true nationwide. They get two thumbs up from me.

My 13 yr old daughter wants a camcorder for xmas?

She found this one on ebay that she wants...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180304802102

Is this a good video camera? I dont know anything about them. What should I be looking for?

Answer
Well, it seems not so good, but it is also kind of cheap. It is probably for beginners or children or something. But, still, I give it a thumbs down.

First of all, they don't specify on the resolution. If they say "high resolution", like they did, it could just be crap, and probably is. They don't tell you exactly what the resolution is. I would look for 720 x 480p. "i" is fine too.

And, it has a 4x zoom, but it's digital zoom. Digital zoom just crops out the image and magnifies it, greatly lowering the quality in the process. Most camera's digital zoom is in the 100's! So, yeah, that's crap.

You're going to want to look for optical zoom, not digital, and if it is digital, make sure the number is in the hundreds! 4x digital zoom is the crappiest zoom I have ever heard of! Seriously!!!

Also, it's a kid's camera. and it's 50 bucks, (not including shipping)! And look at the maker of it. "Jazz Cameras"? I have never heard of them. I would look for Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, etc.

And, he said, "this is not only the best camera for kids that this company has ever made it is also the best value on the market." First of all, that company probably mad only one camera or something. And, sure it's a good value, it's a crappy camera!

THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM!

Believe me, once it gets to you, it'll turn out to be some piece of crap. They're tricking you. There are so many gaps in the information. It's at least too basic for a 13-year-old. It sounds like it's either crap or for babies.

A popular camcorder is the Sony Handycam. It is widely used, so I would recommend it. Look for that one.

Keep looking, and remember Sony Handycam is probably good. And, look out for the things I told you about. You want at least 18x OPTICAL zoom, at least 720 x 480 resolution, which is standard for most camcorders including DVD and MiniDV, (tapes). If you want high definition, that is 1920 x 1080, but cameras that can shoot in that are expensive and rare, but are becoming more common. I think Handycams shoot in that now, (but, again, they are the expensive kind). (And, make sure they tell you what the resolution is. Don't just let them say "high resolution".) And, make sure you check out the maker of it, (like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, etc.). Make sure it isn't a scam and good luck!

Best camcorder for 350$, 60 fps, full hd? amateur filming?

Jonas

Hey.
What is the best camcorder for 350$?

Me and a couple of friends are thinking of making amateur films, and we wanted to know this.
This one?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Everio-GZ-HM960-10-62MP-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B007TL4T46/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363798387&sr=8-2-fkmr0

Answer
Hi Jonas - for a little more than $350, I would get a Panasonic DMC-FZ150 still/video camera from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-FZ150K-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B005HQ50SO?tag=battleforthew-20

Since your camcorder link is to Amazon UK, you can get one for £269 from Amazon UK, if that is more convenient for you: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMC-FZ150-Compact-Camera-Recording/dp/B005LTRD5U?tag=hybrcamerevo-21

This camera shoots 60fps (50fps in the UK), has an external mic input, a standard shoe mount for microphones and lights, and a 24x zoom. Here is the video/still quality it can produce:

http://vimeo.com/48214926

I own this camera, and it is great value for the money.

Hope this is helpful,

What's the best camcorder for 2012 from consumer review and every ones else in the $250 to $325 out there in 2012?

Answer
HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.http://simplevideoediting.com/learn/part1_camcorder_choices.htm

Why does EA sports suck so much?

I just got the game madden 12 and the players still look like freaking bobble heads. it's year 2012 and they still look like that since they first made it in 1992 which was like 20 years ago. i mean, the audience, the stadiums, and the field has improved alot. but why do the players still look like freaking slow cartoon bobble head dolls??? THE FREAKING HEADS ARE FREAKING HUGE!!!! THE BOBBLE HEADS! WTF!!!!

Answer
Yea its bad now. Last years was just horrible in every area. A new hot thing which saved NCAA 12 is the Road to Glory Mode. This is becoming a huge thing in all sports games. Playing as a single player, and hoping on team mates and doing your thing (whats not to love about that.) I would of thought Madden would of got that down some this year. But not only did it suck so bad in how it was played out off the field. It sucked on the filed also. The dang camera bobbing up and down with your players head all rough and odd, the dang coach talking BS (you could not turn off) and other odd and stuff. Franchise mode was just so ughh too.

Amazing enough though their was a time (I cant remember the exact year.) I want to say somewhere around 95ish or in that area, where it was good. And every new year was so much better. Because 2K was bringing it also, and if not better then Madden. But The last 5 or 6 years of Madden have actually become worse with every year. And in this time we have probably seen the worst programing in sports video game history (granted theirs more to it, but still it should enhance not de-hance.) And this is not a whining and crying scream. These are pretty much the real facts. Madden by now is horrible! Not many 20some's (and epically not any teens) would know this now. Or know just how bad it is, and how good it once was.

What digital Video Camera should I get?

Alex P

Me and my friend make youtube videos ALL the time, but we're getting really tired of our like 5 year old Tape-Recording Handicam.

So we're looking for a Digital video camera. Today I saw in a Jakartan store a MD-10000 Digital Cam for only 900$.

But then I read they are terrible.

So it has to be under about 1200$ and It has to be digital, record good picture, and it needs Fast Frame Rate. (Well at least not slow).

What should i get?

Answer
You should get the Flip Camcorder. It's about the size of a digital camera and it records up to 60 minutes with good picture quality :) I bought one and it was only about $150. It also has a little flip up usb on the side so you can just plug it right into the computer and upload it to youtube.

How do you link a camcorder to a TV?

I play Skyrim a lot and wanted to start a channel on YouTube to help people out. But I don't want to record my TV. I've noticed how people can actually record what's ON their TV, not the TV itself. Can I actually hook up my video camera to the TV to accomplish something like this?

What's a good camera for a 12 year old?

The Crazy

Okay well it's christmastime and I'd really like a digital camera or so. I'm a girl in love with gadgets and electronics, but I don't need anything really flashy and it doesn't have to be PINK. My brother's getting it for me, and I don't want to burn his pockets. It doesn't have to be expensive, I'm only 12 you know. I WOULD like the pics to come out a little nicely, outdoor or indoor. I had the Oregon Scientific DS6618 and it was okay. Slim and slender, it was small and portable. Anyone have any ideas on which camera to buy?

Answer
I just bought a Kodak Easyshare 7.1 MP camera at Radioshack, but they also sell them at Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Office Max and Office Depot. The 6.1 MP is cheaper, so that would probably be best. I love my camera, it has so many awesome features, and it is extremely easy to use (so easy, you don't even need the manual they include). I paid $130 for mine, which is an excellent price for something of this quality, and the best part is it comes with a charger! No matter what camera you buy, make sure it runs on a RECHARGEABLE batter, because buying disposables is gonna cost you more in the long run. I just can't get over how awesome this camera is! It's really tiny, and you can also record video (but they come out in quicktime format, however, you can easily convert it). The pics come out crystal clear, and 7 megapixels means HUGE PICS! There are black/white & sepia filters, and also several different modes for taking pictures. I used the sport mode while I was riding on the train, and the pictures still came out absolutely perfect! I had a hard time finding it in the store, everywhere I called was nearly sold out! I understand why though, this is an awesome camera~!

Camcorders: Is infrared the same thing as night shot?

?

I'm confused... So, if these two things are different, how does the night shot work? I know that infrared detects heat.

Can you get camcorders with infrared capabilities under $100? I saw on bestbuy.com that you could buy an infrared attachment, but I couldn't find anything about the actual camcorders unless I went through each one individually.

Please dont provide links only, thats the only reason why I am asking this, all the other questions like this just had links only...

Answer
The only camcorder manufacturer - that I know of - that has a built-in infrared emitter for zero-light video capture is Sony. If the camcorder has NightShot or SuperNightShot mode from Sony, then it has a built-in IR emitter for zero light video capture. I don't know of any camera or camcorder that has this capability under $100.

what canon camcorders have night vision?

Robbie

Look i really need a camcorder with night vision please please please help!

Answer
None really, they're just infrared sensitive. On the camera there's a small infrared light. You can't see it with the naked eye, but when turning on the night-shot, the camera's CCD becomes extremely infrared sensitive. The overwhelming majority of these cameras will operate about the same with only minor differences. Sony, Canon, and Panasonic have been longstanding with camcorders and will be solid choices.

Heh, there were complaints with one model of camcorder some years back. What had happened was that it was too sensitive. With that, people's privates would have a slight glow to them. the problem was fixed in later models.

A no shitter night vision attachment for a camcorder will probably be out of your spending range. But if it's not, here's one. ^_^ http://www.optics4birding.com/morovision-night-vision-adapter-canon-xl-camcorders.html

How & When to Market Yourself in Football/Soccer?

pooch love

I'm almost 13 and know that I want to go as far as I can with soccer (to play WPS or make the national team). I realize that I'll need to eventually market myself, so what do I or my parents need to be documenting along the way? Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of money for me (I'm one of six kids!) to participate year after year in programs such as ODP. Even though there may be scholarships, it still costs my family a lot to travel. My dad says that "if you're good...you're good and won't need to get your name out there among ODP". So I figure that I'll train hard (I'm homeschooled so I practice alot) and eventually tryout at an age when it really matters (like when you can be on a regional team). Does that sound reasonable?
I don't know how to keep stats and my mom often deletes my games in order to make room on the camcorder for new games. Can someone help me with how I should keep stuff for my future? Also at what age can I start contacting coaches? (I don't mean to brag, but I know that I have a shot because I've had two prominent coaches from two different states think that I was good). I know how so many people dream or talk about going far, but I am not going to quit working hard. Thanks for any advice in helping me! JOGA BONITO!!

small video camera for skiing?

Stephanie

I am looking for a video camera that fits inside of my jacket pocket so I can record my kids skiing. It has to have zoom capability. Any suggestions?
I have an Iphone, but they are not good enough quality. I was looking into Sony - HDR-CX130/B HD or
Sanyo - 3.0MP Camcorder with 2.7" Color LCD Widescreen.

Answer
The Sony is a full-size camcorder, which may be a little bulky for your jacket pocket. The Sanyo looks like a much better size for your pocket.

There are a lot of small video cameras on the market, but most of them lack optical zoom. I have a Kodak PlaySport ZX3 which lacks optical zoom (the digital zoom is too poor quality to be useful) and its low-light performance leaves something to be desired. I also have a Flip camera which also lacks optical zoom.

The down side of all of the above cameras, including the ones you mention, is that you need to stop, pull the camera out of your pocket, take your video clip, and put the camera away. You lose a lot of shots because it's too much hassle.

I just bought a Contour HD Helmet Cam and it's very convenient for skiing. It lacks any kind of zoom whatsoever, and there is no screen, but the video quality is pretty good. I start recording as I get off the chair lift, and stop at the bottom. See this example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-ScXVUv-N0.

Go with this camera: http://www.globalmediapro.com/dp/A01ZK4/Canon-HV20-HD-Camcorder/

Please help me!

Answer
Hi Adam, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

The short answer is "yes", either mike will work with your Canon HV-20 (or your GoPro, for that matter).

The key feature is the 3.5mm plug that both the mikes & your camcorder uses for external mike input. If you ever shopped around for a more-professional (and more expensive) mike with an XLR connector, you can buy or make an XLR-to-3.5mm adapter cable.

The only caution would be to avoid non-battery condenser mikes that require "phantom power" in order to work. Neither of your cameras supplies phantom power internally. (You'd have to buy an external phantom power supply "box" -- like a Crown PH-1A -- to connect between that type of mike & your camcorder.) The trick to phantom powered mikes is to make sure the phantom supply provides enough voltage for a particular microphone model (some condenser mikes need up to +48V phantom voltage for proper operation).

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Lenses for canon xf100 camcorder?

Mikey

Are there any lenses for the canon xf100? I've heard about telephoto and wide angle converters, but how is that different than a lens?

Answer
The Canon XF100 is built like most camcorders that are similarly priced. It has a fixed lens - that is, the lens that comes with the camcorder is permanently mounted. When you take the lens hood off there are threads available to screw-mount lenses or, under certain conditions, you may be able to mount certain lenses using the same bayonet mount that the lens hood uses. There are also adapters available that allow use of some dSLR-mounting type lenses.

This is different from dSLRs and certain other camcorders (like the Sony VG10) where, if you remove the lens from the camera (or camcorder), the unit is essentially blind until an appropriate lens is mounted.

The tele and wide angle "converters" you've heard about merely attach to the front of the XF100 and "convert" the existing lens to whatever field of view the add-on lens is able to provide in conjunction with the "permanent" lens. In the case of cameras and camcorders that use interchangeable lenses, the entire lens assembly comes off the camera/camcorder and is replaced by a complete lens that provides the appropriate functionality.

A lens is a lens whether screw-mount/bayonet mount as an adapter to a camcorder's filter threads or bayonet mount or as a bayonet mount to a dSLR body.

Best HD camcorder in 2012 (cheap)?

John

Hello, I;ve been looking for a slight camera professional now that im in college, I need to make a video for a project
And I need a really good Camera/Camcorder under $650 that will record video VERY nicely. (I want the ABSOLUTE best camera I can get for its price)
For now I;ve been looking at the
Canon VIXIA HF-M40, Pansonic HDC-TM90, Canon t3i, Sony HDR-CX160/B,

I was wondering if you guys could spend 5 minutes of you're life to help me find a good camera in that price range. I've found some few camera's above (Please also tell me which one above would be best at taking videos) but if you know any better ones please tell me! thank yo!
Wait the T3i though would be much cheaper if it was just a camcorder? are you telling me its better then taking videos then every camcorder for its price or less?

Answer
Canon t3i...nothing will beat the quality lens on that canon makes, yes it's better than Nikon.

what are good quality camcorders or cameras for making youtube videos?

Angie

i make youtube videos but my camera quality isn't so good does anyone know of a hd camera or camcorder under 200 dollars that will still look good on youtube ?

Answer
Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

How do you link a camcorder to a TV?

Kourtney

I play Skyrim a lot and wanted to start a channel on YouTube to help people out. But I don't want to record my TV. I've noticed how people can actually record what's ON their TV, not the TV itself. Can I actually hook up my video camera to the TV to accomplish something like this?
It would also help if you recommend a good camera for this. I have a feeling mine won't be that good... (^-^")

Helmet camera for skiing?

Matt

So I ski a lot and I wanted a helmet cam to film some of my skiing. I am looking for one that has to attach to my helmet, has good video quality, and is relatively cheap. The video quality has to be good enough to easily identify moguls, jumps, etc. I'm am going to Utah in about 2 weeks so I want to film the awesomeness. Also, I wouldn't mind paying somewhere from $50-$100 but anything below that is good. THANKS

Answer
If you want full HD quality (1080p) then i'm quite sure you need to use a little bit more money than that.

I have both the Contour HD and the GoPro HD. These two cameras are the most selling HD helm cameras at the moment. I have been using both when skiing and doing other sports, and i've come to the conclusion that i like the GoPro best. It got better mounts, and i like the video quality better.

You can see a comparison of the two cameras here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAQ10RamNOg

What Canon DSLR camera should I buy?

Jack Mcrob

I cannot decide between two Canon full frame cameras the 6D and 5D Mark ii. I use my current camera for sports such as football, travel, night time space photography, and video. I have found that it is bad in low light and slow in sports photography. I would like to upgrade to a better performing camera in low light and sports photography. I do not know which one these is better. I have also heard news of the Canon 7D Mark ii and I was wondering if that would be worth waiting for. My final question is where the best place to buy this camera from. I saw on Best Price Photo it is selling for $1,400 vs B and H photo for $1,999. Why is this?

Answer
Do not, repeat do not send your money or credit card information to Best Price. Read the reviews here about their shady practices.

As for the two Canons you names, I can't help you, since I'm a Nikon shooter. But here's a side-by-side comparison of the these cameras for you.

And a couple of very detailed reviews.

By the way, be aware that none of your EF-S lenses would be mountable on these full-frame cameras.
