Why are there no 20 megapixel camcorders in market?

FreedomFig

We all know that there are cmos sensors with 15 megapixels resolution but these sensors are only be used for fotografy, not video. So,i would ask,why not for video???Is that because there are technical problems(like huge bitrate or no good video compression software in 2010)or....why??
Ok,we need also tv's with 15 megapixel resolution too to enjoy our films! Why are there no such tv's and cameras?Thank you..

Answer
There is 39 megapixel camera:
http://www.hasselbladusa.com/products/h-system/h3dii-39.aspx

A camcorder must embroider with the image when shooting. 39MP images must repeatedly come. If you want to record them, you must have really powerful GPU. Powerful GPUs are heated, then you must cool them with a fan etc. It means, If you want to use that camcorder, you should be muscled, it will be huge and heavy.

In the past, computers are huge like this and processors had low frequency. I believe it will be possible what you want in future, but now, impossible.

MegaPixels show us a picture dimensions NOT dpi. So If you want to play a video which is 15MP or higherMP, your TV must be huge screen. Like this:

24MP picture ----> 213,33 cm x 142,22 cm TV panel (72dpi).
It is realy hard to have it.

best camcorder (dvd) on the market? Does anybody have the Cannon DC50?

Answer
I have the Sony DVD camcorder model 101. It worked really good for 4 disks then it stopped recording and never gave me a error message. It is at sony for repair now and out of warranty. Just a word of advice if I had to do it all over again I would buy the JVC harddrive camcorder because you record directly to a hard drive and once you get 4.5gb on the camcorder you can burn it to a disk. With the DVD camcorders you will use the small RW disks to record on then you will convert them to the bigger disks and you will not be able to put more than 30 minutes on a big disk when it is made for a couple of hours of recoreding due to the small disk and formating to the big disks. Good luck with a dvd camcorder from a former dvd camcorder owner and soon to be and hard drive camcorder owner

Hi,
I have been shooting videos for almost 4 years with the same camera, the sony HDR-SR12 but I came to the point where I want more control, more options.
The camera I am looking for is the panasonic gh3 or black magic pocket cinema camera.
The panasonic gh3 seems very promising with its ability to record in ALL-I and 72 Mbits mov file, but the sensor size is small and the color space is quite poor. (8 bits 4:2:0)
In the other hand, the black magic pocket cinema camera is very portable, is able to interchange lenses, can record on raw files, and can record with 13 dynamic range which is incredible for its price! Again, I am not sure how the 16 mm sensor will affect the overall image quality.
I am well aware that coming from my sony hdr sr12 camera it will be a huge step up, but I would like to make every bucks I have worth it.
I shoot videos mainly for narrative, but for the upcoming project I will do a documentary film.
Also, how about Nikons and Canons?
Lastly my budget is 1500$, but I could wait and save money if needed.
Thank you for your generous inputs.

Answer
I would suggest that you take a look at the Canon VIXIA HF G20. It has many features that rival much more expensive cameras. It's the top of the line consumer camcorder for 2013. Go here for a few reviews:

Why does EA sports suck so much?

I just got the game madden 12 and the players still look like freaking bobble heads. it's year 2012 and they still look like that since they first made it in 1992 which was like 20 years ago. i mean, the audience, the stadiums, and the field has improved alot. but why do the players still look like freaking slow cartoon bobble head dolls??? THE FREAKING HEADS ARE FREAKING HUGE!!!! THE BOBBLE HEADS! WTF!!!!

Answer
Yea its bad now. Last years was just horrible in every area. A new hot thing which saved NCAA 12 is the Road to Glory Mode. This is becoming a huge thing in all sports games. Playing as a single player, and hoping on team mates and doing your thing (whats not to love about that.) I would of thought Madden would of got that down some this year. But not only did it suck so bad in how it was played out off the field. It sucked on the filed also. The dang camera bobbing up and down with your players head all rough and odd, the dang coach talking BS (you could not turn off) and other odd and stuff. Franchise mode was just so ughh too.

Amazing enough though their was a time (I cant remember the exact year.) I want to say somewhere around 95ish or in that area, where it was good. And every new year was so much better. Because 2K was bringing it also, and if not better then Madden. But The last 5 or 6 years of Madden have actually become worse with every year. And in this time we have probably seen the worst programing in sports video game history (granted theirs more to it, but still it should enhance not de-hance.) And this is not a whining and crying scream. These are pretty much the real facts. Madden by now is horrible! Not many 20some's (and epically not any teens) would know this now. Or know just how bad it is, and how good it once was.

Canon HG10 HD HDD Camcorder, good zoom?

noonemourn

I am looking at getting the Canon HG10 Camcorder in order to film some amateur theatre productions with my college.

Will the 10x optical zoom on this camera be enough to film from the back of a medium sized theatre and still maintain picture quality to the highest standard?

I want a Hard Drive camera for sure and also an old fashioned viewfinder.

Here is the spec on the Canon HG10, and information or suggestions for different cameras is greatly appreciated:

http://www.canon.co.uk/for_home/product_finder/camcorders/high_definition_hd/HG10/index.asp?specs=1

Thanks in advance for any help.

Camcorders: HD vs. SD optical zoom?

jasminium

I'm looking into purchasing a digital camcorder and I noticed that the optical zoom on standard def camcorders goes up to 40x, whereas high def camcorders only have 10x optical zoom. Why is this?

note: I'm aware that they also have the digital zoom, but there is a generally a loss in picture quality when digital zoom is used.

Answer
Good question! Many retailers will try to tell you that the higher the optical zoom, the better. This is a misconception. On the contrary, when you zoom in 30X or 40X, your picture will become uncontrollably shaky, and the picture quality will be worse quality at 40X (it is not as noticeable with optical zoom, but it is still there). Sure, optical zoom is important, but in most cases, you will probably not need more than 10X or 12X. It is true that many cheap consumer camcorders have optical zooms at 30 or 40X, but most professional camcorders have optical zooms of 12X! In conclusion, do not let optical zoom turn away from a camcorder you like. Hope that helps!

Anyone know a good camcorder for about $150??

smile

I need good quality, but cheap. Nothing like ebay.com please.

Answer
The only camcorders you can get for 150 is a digital camcorder w/ a memory card.($70-$120+) Not a tape camcorder. Tigerdirect.com and Pricegrabber, Pricerunner all have camcorder prices to compare. The best for the money are Mini Dv camcorders, and they rarely go for under 250. I've been looking at the DXG 305V digital camcorder, but it might be a dead-end.

what is a good cheap camcorder? (under $150 )?

I would like to find one that is inexpensive that I can take to camp with me

Answer
Use a cheaper camcorder to learn with. MiniDVs are the best. Stay away from SVHS, DVD, and Digital8. If you're buying your first camcorder, but you don't have much money then buy the Canon ZR500:

Answer
Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

Is this a good camcorder? And it works well when not doing underwater pics and video right?

Well it is a medium quality camcorder for that price which gives you a feature to take pictures and record videos under the water. If you are going to use it also outside then I suggest you take a look at the Panasonic SDR-SW20 waterproof camcorder, it is definitely better.

Are there any HDD camcorders available with an external mic jack?

loizenin

I have been searching for awhile but it seems the newer HDD camcorders nowadays have NO jacks for connecting an external microphone. And no, I prefer not to sync images with a digital voice recorder. Any help is appreciated!

Answer
Nancy Allen is correct... the more expensive consumer camcorders have a mic jack. The lower-end do not. Keep in mid this is only part of the equation because you also want manual audio control.

Since you did not tell us what your budget is:

The cheapest camcorders with a mic jack AND manual audio control are the Canon HV30, HV40 and Sony HDR-HC9. The similarly priced HDD based camcorders in their price range (or higher) may have a mic jack - but no manual audio control.

You can also connect a specially made external drive from Sony or Focus Enhancements (FireStore) to compatible miniDV tape based camcorders. That external drive will save to HDV or DV format.

A regular external computer hard drive won't work - the firmware built in to those special drives is required.

Red Scarlet and the cameras from Silicon Imaging also recorder to HDD.

Camcorder help? External mic?

godzilla53

I am very frustrated: My birthday is coming up (today is april fools 2011, my b'day is 5/30). I want an hd camcorder (i will take movies of EVERYTHING: me drumming, i will bring camcorder to New York Rangers games, me making comedies with friends, my baseball games, my hockey games, EVERYTHING). I want FULL hd (1080p). I need pretty good zoom, and a port for an external mic. My birthday list is as follows:
Olympus camera = 267.99$
Archos 4.3 android mp3 player = 130$
External mic = 22.11$
HD camcorder = ??
TOTAL MUST BE <540$ (540$ or below)
With the things i listed, it all equals 420$, which gives me little spending money for camcorder (but i am unwilling to take away money on the camera, and i already bought the archos, as my ipod broke). It gives me about 120$ for a camcorder. I don't care if it is used, refurbished, etc. I don't care if went through the pits of hell, as long as it is in great condition when i get it. I can't seem to find ANY camcorders <300 with an external microphone port. Well, that makes my job A LOT harder! Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
THE CLOCK IS TICKING ;)
PS: It must have the body of a videocamera: NOT the body of a flip, Kodak zi8, etc. I will NOT accept a rectangular piece of shit (i don't care if the video quality of those little rectangles are great, they have no zoom and no low light performance!). I don't REALLY care about low light performance that much.
THANKS
@Palidin... Thanks! I will most likely get that (i've seen that on amazon, but hesitated because it looks kinda weird :D) If you are a witness of its quality, than who am i to say otherwise? BUT, does it have a place to hitch an external mic on it? I understand that it has the appropriate port for a mic, but can it hold it so the camera man doesn't have to?
thanks for your answers!! I really appreciate it!
ok, one thing i found out about that canon: its not HD. Is there a difference between High Definition and Standard Definition? I mean a difference that makes it worth it for me to save up my money for an HD camcorder rather than the canon Standard Definition camcorder.

Answer
You would need $3500 in order to buy a HD camcorder that could get any where near the video quality of a $300 MiniDV tape camcorder. A HD camcorder is a disaster as sports videos.

You go visit here http://www.amazon.com/Canon-ZR930-1-07MP-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B00114163O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301702929&sr=8-1-spell.

The Canon ZR 930 is a MiniDV tape camcorder with a Mic jack, you can attach a Mic, mixer or music making device to this camera easily. I own a Canon ZR500, ZR800 and a ZR930. I have shot weddings with them, clients loved the Video Quality they got back.

HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

i want to make a pair of video sunglasses to work with a mini dv camcorder.?

jack ander

I know the basics of wiring the mini camera, what i need to know is,what type plug will i need to hook into the back of my camcorder?and is the port labled dv the same as firewire?is it possible to have video come into a camcorder from another source?THANKS

Answer
Do you want the "video sunglasses" to play video so you can watch it? Since we don't know what camcorder you are using, we don't know what plug you need. Typically, the AV-out port is proprietary, but the other end of the cable uses RCA male (yellow-video, red-right audio, white-left audio).

If you want the "video sunglasses" to be a camera, you need to be sure the AV-port can actually do AV-in. Most camcorders do not do this. The same AV port is used, just a menu option to make it V-in. Remember, most camcorders do not have this feature - the Sony DCR-HC96 does.

Yes, the 4-pin DV jack on a camcorder is a firewire/IEEE1394/i.LINK port.

As indicated above, having video coming in from another source is possible - but it depends on the camcorder. Connecting a DV-camera to the DV port won't work - unless it is another camcorder or other firewire device with some intelligence... and you are dubbing across the firewire cable copying tape-to-tape.

where are spy sunglasses made?

Answer
Italy and China. The spy sunglasses with consumer electronic components built into them (i.e. camcorders, etc.) are manufactured in China while the standard sunglasses without the extra electronic components are manufactured in Italy.

Best Digital Camcorders?

mR. smith

the price won't matter

make sure its a digital camcorder not a minidv
I have been searching the internet for the best digital camcorders to use to start filming for youtube videos. I have found one camcorder called the HDR-XR520V 240GB High Definition Handycam® Camcorder i believe its the best one so far. I just wanted to know if there are any other camcorders that are better than this one, and I don't want any minidv camcorders right now. The link to the camcorder i listed above is below.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665736672

Answer
"Best" and price does not matter?

Red Scarlett or Red One, or something from Silicon Graphics.

Less than that? In the pro environment, Canon XLH series, XH series, Sony HVR series or something in the XDCAM or HD cam series, Panasonic AG-HVX series...

Interesting you say you want "Best" but are willing to settle for a highly compressed video stream that comes in the form of AVCHD/MTS files from a consumer grade hard disc drive camcorder that can stream at only 24mbps... HDV does 25mbps whether consumer or pro grade. Higher is better. The "DV" in miniDV = Digital Video"... just because it is on tape does not make it any less digital than hard disc drive or flash memory. It is still a series of zeroes and ones but it is better video quality because HDV is compressed so much less than AVCHD/MTS... Compressed digital vide = discarded video data = reduved video quality. Don't drink from the manufacturer's hype koolaid pitcher.

But... if you insist... The Sony HVR, XDCAM and HDCAM systems have an optional external drive that will write to HDV format. The Panasonic HDX200 will write HD format video (but not AVCHD) to P2 flash memory and the Sony HVR-Z7 will write HDV format video to compact flash cards... and any miniDV camcorder that Focus Enhancements states is compatible with their external hard drives (FireStore) to capture DV and HDV format video will be fine.

If you insist on "best", it certainly is NOT in that consumer-grade Sony HDD AVCHD/MTS camcorder... I'd suggest skipping HDD camcorders (too many known issues with vibration and altitude and problems with the editing process flow) and suggest flash memory instead - the file types are the same mediocre AVCHD/MTS files, but at least the storage is removeable (consider your reaction when the camcorder is broken/lost/stolen)... The Canon HF S series is worth a look for consumer-grade camcorders - no moving parts (except zoom and focus) means longer battery life. Since the video files are the same whether consumer HDD or consumer flash memory, the video quality will be the same. And if your computer cannot handle a firewire connection (required for miniDV tape), then this would be your only option.

camcorder and digital camera advice please?

I'm looking for advice about purchasing a hard-drive camcorder. I need one that will last a while, is affordable, easy to use, and is compatible with purchasing additional storage. Anything else I should consider and does anyone have any recommendations? I'm also looking to purchase a new digital camera. I think I like the Sony Cybershot. I had a kodak easy share for my first camera and am looking to replace it. I want something that will take good clear pictures and good action shots. I have an almost two year old who will be the star of it all! :) Thanks in advance

Answer
For camcorder if you want one that can add storage I would suggest flash memory camcorder Canon VIXIA HF100 Flash Memory High Definition Camcorder with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom
is a good choice.

and for camera I would suggest new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T90 12 MP with 4x Optical Zoom and Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization
720p high-definition movie capture; HDMI compatible
3.0-inch LCD (230k) touch-screen display

Which is the Best Camera for Video Recording for Youtube 2013?

Tori Leann

Answer
Define "Best".

For low light conditions, Sony HDR-FX1000 or any other camcorder with a lens diameter of 72mm or larger and Imaging chip 3CCD or 3CMOS system that is 1/3" or larger.

For infrared recording, Sony HVR-A1 in "NightShot" mode to capture monochrome video under zero visible light conditions.

For fast action and slow-motion playback, any GoPro or Contour - these may be best as "pocket cams", too.

For loud audio, any camcorder with manual audio gain control.

For very low audio, any camcorder with an external mic jack and manual audio gain control so an external mic can be used - and the low audio level can be made higher.

Since consumer camcorders can range in price from $80 to about $3,000, and there is such a wide range of video and audio quality issues, please set a budget and tell us what your plans are to capture things to YouTube... then we might be able to provide a little more detail...

Best digital video camera for recording music?

Hey guys I'm a singer and want to record my performances what camera has really high quality audio and picture not super expensive would be great thank you :)

Answer
HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

I need 1080p resolution and I would prefer flash or hard drive memory not mini-DV. I'm thinking about the Sony Handycam but I've heard they aren't very compatible with Macs (although I have Final Cut Express so I wouldn't need the Sony software). And do megapixels matter with camcorders?

What is the movie mode, I have seen 30fps and Frame Movie Mode? Are they the same? How is the movie quailty and can you adjust scene modes in video? ...And, overall what is your opinion on the camera?
Thank you for any information and advice. Have a good day

Camcorders?

Stan

Hello all...I'm interested in buying a camcorder...specifically to make music videos. Live local rock bands, perhaps acoustic guitar You Tube videos..etc. I'd like the ability to shoot images, and add a soundtrack later while keeping the existing video. Is this possible? ( Or should I just count on using software, like Windows Movie Maker?)

Also, a camcorder with the ability to record from TV, and an output for an external microphone, and at least one small built in decent condenser mic.

Good sound quality is my major concern, but of course, I want decent images.

Any suggestions? I'm looking at the under 1 grand price range.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Maybe one of these from consumer reports has what you need.

Keep in mind that using the same model number but paying a little more for the upper of the models usually works just great. So like instead of the PV-GS80, I got the PV-GS85 because it had a few more specs on it. Mine cost $277 at circuitcity.

For MiniDV

⢠Panasonic PV-GS80
⢠Sony DCR-HC28
⢠Canon ZR800

MiniDVD

⢠Hitachi DZ-GX5020A
⢠Canon DC230

Hard Drive

⢠Panasonic SDR-H18

Hybrid

⢠Hitachi DZ-HS300A

I'm looking for a good camcorder to film Youtube videos?

Jessica Gr

This will be my first camcorder and I'm looking for the best one I can find for about 200-400 dollars,
the things I'm looking for in the camcorder:
Optical Image Stabilizer
Auto Focus
Good sound
Good Lighting
I've read on some reviews on camcorders that they couldn't see in the sunlight or that it didn't film good at night...I need one that films good during night and day, and for me to be able to see myself film if it is sunny out.
I would like for the screen to flip over, so I could see myself film.
Extra things but not necessary:
I would like it to be a Sony
I would like it to be touch screen
and I would like it to have WI-FI
but like I said those aren't necessary

Thanks in advance!

Which handheld camcorders are compadible with iMovie '11?

Danielle N

First off I don't know very much about cameras and what types do what best!!
I'm planning on taking videos of my horse and I want something that'll look good when I put it in slow motion. I have iMovie 11 on my mac (if it matters I'm planning on downgrading to snow leopard soon) and I'm not sure which brands of cameras will work. I used to use an oldish sony point and shoot and I had all kinds of problems trying to upload videos.
I'm not very picky with brands, but I want something that will have good quality and I don't want to spend any more than $400.

By the way i was looking at a Canon Vixia HF R20, and I really like it so if any one knows if that will do the job then let me know.

Thank you!!!

Answer
iMovie is great. Almost-all cameras work just fine. It is up to you if you want a tape or SD card as your media. Tape is good for archiving (save for later!), and SD is good for fast importing.

Importing video to iMovie 11?

Bob Singer

I was wondering how you would import a movie from your video camera (say an HD one like the Panasonic HDC tm700k)? What cable do you need?

Answer
Have a read of what is said about your camera in the iMovie 11 compatibility listing:
http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US

Panasonic HDC-TM700AVCHDHDD / MemoryNTSC
iMovie does not support footage recorded in 1080-60p from this Camcorder
Video stabilization limitations more...

Panasonic HDC-TM700AVCHDHDD / MemoryPAL
iMovie does not support footage recorded in 1080-50p from this Camcorder
Video stabilization limitations more...

Otherwise you only need to connect with the USB cable supplied with your camera or take out the SD card and use the card slot (macbook) or a card reader.

What's the cheapest HD video camera you can get?

Jahood

I've had a look at both the Canon Rebel T2i and the Sony HDR FX-1, but both were out of my price range. I'd like a video camera with similar quality and features but alot cheaper.

So, what's the cheapest HD video camera that you can get that approves my above requirements?

Thanks! :D

Answer
Consumer level HD camcorders have 3 problems. With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic jack. You need a firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer. To say this is not HD, think about this. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $250 Canon MiniDV tape camcorder.

Looking for a camera to mount on my book bag or helmet that isnt so obvious & can last long on a single charge?

dean

Any suggestions? It doesnât have to be the greatest HD video i just want a simple video that i can carry with me throughout the day that would hopefully last at least 6-8 hours. The ones that ive found all generally have 2.5 hour capabilities. Since im traveling A LOT throughout the day and using my bike i would like a little extra protection, especially going through some rough areas of the city to get to class with my laptop, and phone in my book bag. So id preferably like for this camera to be as discreet as possible, i donât mind having a wire connecting to the battery pack or something like that, i can easily hide that in my helmet or bag. I found the POV.HD systems a while ago but theyâve been out of stock for about a year so Iâm not too optimistic theyâll have what i need any time soon. So any advice of a fairly small camera with a large charge for long time video recording?

Is there a difference between shutter speed and frames per second?

kobe_b_roc

I am thinking of buying a Sony DCR VX2100. This is my first good video camera I have ever purchased. It has a10,000th of a second shutter speed. Does that mean 10,000 frames per second? If its not, how can I find out the FPS on the camera. I'll be using it for extreme sports so I need to be able to have a very smooth slow motion. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Answer
The frame rate is the number of frames the camera takes in a second.

The shutter speed is the amount of time it takes for the camera to take each frame.

Television frame rates are standardized, and will remain the same if you change the shutter speed. NTSC-format video runs at 29.97 fps, and PAL and SECAM-format video run at 25 fps. It depends on what part of the world you're working in. There are also HD formats at different frame rates. The DCR-VX2100 only shoots standard-definition video, so it will shoot at one of those two frame rates, depending on where you are.

Again, frames per second is the number of pictures the camera takes in a second. Shutter speed is how quickly the camera takes each picture. So, let's say you're in an NTSC-format country. You decide to shoot with a 1/100 shutter speed. The camera will shoot 29.97 frames every second, and every frame will be shot in 1/100th of a second. In other words, the "shutter" will "open" for 1/100th of a second to shoot each frame. It will do this 29.97 times every second.

At faster shutter speeds (1/250, 1/500, etc.), the camera still shoots 29.97 frames every second, but it opens the shutter for 1/250th or 1/500th of a second for every frame it shoots.

Faster shutter speeds are good for action shots, such as sports. You get less motion blur at faster shutter speeds, but you need more light because of the short amounts of time the shutter opens to let light in.

In short, frame rates won't change unless you're willing to invest thousands more for specialty super-slow-mo cameras that are sometimes used at professional sporting events or on shows like "MythBusters" that are taping things like bullets and explosions. Still, you should be able to get smooth slow-motion at standard frame rates if you use good editing software.

Any other questions?

What is a nice but cheap hd video camera?

?

Looking for a good one preferably Sony

Answer
Nice but cheap HD camcorder? You would need in excess of $3500 to buy a HD camcorder that could have equal to or better video Quality than a $300 MiniDV Tape camcorder has. Using a consumer level HD camcorder to shoot moving objects, sports and stuff, is a disaster.

You can get a Canon ZR 930 for about $300. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic Jack, which allows you to have much better audio under you video. A standard camcorder microphone, has rapid audio quality drop off, beginning at the 5 foot mark. The ability to be able to add an external Mic is priceless.

Its time for me to get a real camera. I have heard alot of good things about the Sony VX1000. But its really old isnt it? I have also been looking into getting a VX2100. I want a camera that looks great, obviously. I want something that has good low light quality. I am looking to spend around 1200 dollars.

What cameras do they film professional skate videos with? Isnt it all how you edit the footage? I have seen vx2100 videos on youtube. and my camera on my phone looks better.

Answer
Try looking at the GoPro camera. They are small, mountable HD cameras that are designed for different kinds of sports.

best pocket camcorder on the market right now?

Brent

Need to know which one to get for Christmas.

Answer
If you are looking for a camcorder/camera that you can keep in your purse/pocket, this is it! We own two other camera's, but they are both bulky and and heavy. This one is so light, you will not even notice its weight in your purse/pocket. I have used it so many times and was so thankful that I had a camera with me. Now, if you are looking for VERY high quality pictures....this camera isn't it. But if you want a good quality picture, carry it with you camcorder/camera...Coby CAM4000BLK 2.4-Inch TFT LCD SNAPP Swivel Camcorder is it. I am very pleased with it and with the price!

Answer
There really isn't something out there that would do what you want.
You could always just get a camcorder and just record stills from that.

try www.dpreview.com or www.camcorderinfo.com for reviews.

Are any camcorders good in low light environments like indoors?

Paranormal

I have a camcorder I bought for â¬235 in 2011 which is 10MP. Indoors it is always grainy and fuzzy except in some very bright lighting. Outdoors it's better. Are there any camcorders available that are sharp indoors and in low light/dark environments and have little/no visible noise/grain?
My camcorder only has ISO controls for photographs and not video. It has a "Night mode" and white balance but no matter what settings I use, I almost always get grainy video indoors even with lights on.
My camcorder is Toshiba Camileo A35.

Answer
Good low-light means large lens filter diameter and large imaging chip. The large lens allows in more light; the large imaging chip can deal with what little light is available. You have already discovered that small lens diameter and small imaging chip doe not behave well. As camcorders increase in price, their lenses get larger - so do the imaging chips... You did not tell us which camcorder you are currently using, but at your price point, I would guess 30mm filter diameter and 1/6" single imaging chip. or you are using a digital still camera (maybe even a bridge camera) that happens to capture video as a secondary "convenience feature".

For low-light conditions, at a minimum, I use my Sony HDR-FX1. This was replaced by the HDR-FX1000. 72mm filter diameter lens and 1/3" 3CCD imaging chip. If it is really dark, then Panasonic AG-HVX200 with 82mm filter diameter and 1/3" 3CCD imaging chip works well... above this they start to get expensive.

If these cameras are too expensive, you have an alternative... learn to shoot "day for night". ADD light during video capture

and use a decent video editor...

Hard Search... HD camcorder with external microphone input?

Slulego

I have saved up about $200.00 for a HD camcorder that has a external microphone input.
But can't find one for the life of me!
where do i find one?

(i found one but it doesn't do HD)

Please help me.

THANKS for YOUR help...!

Answer
Getting a HD camcorder is taking a step backward in Video Quality. HD camcorders Interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly, the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. MiniDV tape camcorders give every frame of every shot and usually cost less.

Mini-DV Camcorder Microphone

Jeremy

I make some videos for youtube and I can get some pretty decent quality that's good enough for me off my sony handycam after rendering. The annoying buzz the tape makes when recording is annoying, and also the sound the camera makes when you move it around. I was looking at Azden microphones, so I was wondering if any of these would work good. There is one made for mini-dv cameras, but the others are more professional.
It's a Sony DCR-HC28

Answer
Little Dog is correct. The Sony DCR0HC28 does NOT have a microphone input. In that case, you will not be able to connect a microphone directly to the camera. But don't fret. There are some work-arounds. You could purchase a digital audio recoder-you could get one for a good price with the consumer quality 1/8"mini stereo input, or spend a bit more money for the professional XLR terminals. The mini-stereo will probably work.
You can record the sound on the recorder while recording video on the camera, then sync them up later in post production.

As far as mics go, I like some Azdens, especially the Azden SGM-X which is about $110. There is another one (don't remember the model #) that goes for about $50, which I would NOT recommend- it's only a minor upgrade in sound. The Audio Technica ATR-55 is another choice, but I would NOT recommend it either. I found that it produced a distinct hissing noise.

No question, the BEST mini-stereo mic is the RODE VideoMic for about $150. I am still amazed at its sound quality (for a mini-stereo mic) especially when placed on a boompole, pointed at the subjects' mouths.
The Sennheiser MKE300 (I believe that's the model #) is decent too.

For professional XLR mics (if that's the case):
-Rode NTG-1 or NTG-2 -Sennheiser ME66
-Sennheiser MKH-416 is an industry standard, but I doubt you want to spend that kind of $$.

Does anybody know of a good HD camcorder $400 or under?

DK

Well I just need a camcorder that can shoot in 1080p or above. Thanks

Answer
the JVC Everio camcorder is an excellant camcorder that takes very good, high-quality videos. Plus it's picture mode is amazing. I use it all the time for photo shoots. Especially at my brothers hockey and soccer games, it captures action shots GREAT! All you do is take maybe and hour and a half to charge it by plugging the AC cable in the wall to the back of the camcorder. And to upload, you have a USB cable which connects to your computer, to the front of the camcorder and pictures download quickly. For videos, it comes with a fantastic free program called PowerDirector which is simular to Windows Movie Maker but has a lot more effects which can be added! You must upload your video to this program anyway if your would like to upload it onto a site (e.g. Youtube, Facebook) to turn it into a MPEG file.
Check out Future Shop or Best Buy for your best deal. Both stores should have the camcorder included with a battery, an AC cable, an AV cable, USB cable, a shoulder strap, Remote Control and all software devices included. Check it out!

Camcorder in $350-400 range?

kirk d

I am looking for a good camcorder for around $350-400. I would prefer a flash based or HDD memory. For me, video quality is key, I would really like a High Definition one, but really high standard definition might have to suffice for my price range. I am going to actually be shooting a real movie. Ive got some of the most professional editing software, boom mics, ect... I just need a great camera to match. Like I said, 400 bucks is my max.
