What is a good HD camcorder for around $500?

I need 1080p resolution and I would prefer flash or hard drive memory not mini-DV. I'm thinking about the Sony Handycam but I've heard they aren't very compatible with Macs (although I have Final Cut Express so I wouldn't need the Sony software). And do megapixels matter with camcorders?
When I say $500 I mean it - I'll go a little over that. I don't want a cheapy.

Need help choosing Camcorder.?

I am looking to buy a Camcorder, to record mainly nighttime footage (Parties, etc) Preferably 720, or 1080p. Has to be a smaller / pocket camcorder (Somewhat like the Flip or Zi8) Price does not matter, but i would like the communities opinion on what would be the best camcorder i could get, in stores, such as Bestbuy.
