I would like to buy a digital camera any make but more than 7MP(mega pixels). Please suggest me a good brand and if possible give its product identification.

Answer
i think the Olympus x820 would meet your standards.

It is 8.0mp, it is gorgeously compact and has a really big screen.
It has a great supermacro feature that lets you take great quality close-ups,

and it has loads of scenes you can choose from, like Sport (so that it doesn't blur anything! it's an amazing feature), Night Mode (so that you can take pictures in the dark and they come out great quality), Self-Portrait (so you can take pictures of yourself), Indoor and Outdoor features to suit the lighting, even Behind Glass and Underwater features to make the most of whatever picture you take.

Of course you can always specify with each picture whether you would like self-timer, or flash, or non-flash, or no-red-eye-flash!

You can also take videos with amazing sound quality

It's definately the camera for you and it's probably only about £100 now!

What is a cheap tough camera you can buy online?

Plane Boy

Its for my new web show(i have not launched it yet) but i planning to bring it outdoors and it has to be able to withstand paint balls, pellets, rain, muck, dew, etc
needs to be able to record video and must record/play sound

Answer
I think the best option would be this camera:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000F5FKHI/?tag=patricksnet-20

It seems to meet all of your requirements: Cheap at $50. Records sound and video. Waterproof, you can even use it underwater. Shock resistant because it is made for action sports.

You could strap it to your bike, helmet, paintball gun, whatever and get first person video really easily. I wouldn't spend a bunch of money on a fancy camera like the other guy who said it would take 10k to get started. You can buy this one to start out and then upgrade later if you want to.

If you want to spend more you can get extra features with these upgrade models:

Which is the Best Camera for Video Recording for Youtube 2013?

best camcorder in low light 2013

best camcorder in low light 2013 image

Tori Leann

Answer
Define "Best".

For low light conditions, Sony HDR-FX1000 or any other camcorder with a lens diameter of 72mm or larger and Imaging chip 3CCD or 3CMOS system that is 1/3" or larger.

For infrared recording, Sony HVR-A1 in "NightShot" mode to capture monochrome video under zero visible light conditions.

For fast action and slow-motion playback, any GoPro or Contour - these may be best as "pocket cams", too.

For loud audio, any camcorder with manual audio gain control.

For very low audio, any camcorder with an external mic jack and manual audio gain control so an external mic can be used - and the low audio level can be made higher.

Since consumer camcorders can range in price from $80 to about $3,000, and there is such a wide range of video and audio quality issues, please set a budget and tell us what your plans are to capture things to YouTube... then we might be able to provide a little more detail...

What are some really cheap HD cameras under 200$?

Anonymous

Answer
The best camera under $200 is currently the Nikon P310.

Well, maybe under $200. Nikon had a $100 instant rebate that expired on Mar 30, 2013. Check back periodically to see if that rebate is extended or not. Otherwise, you may be spending about $50 more, which is still a good deal.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/842326-REG/Nikon_P310B_Coolpix_P300_Digital_Camera.html

This camera normally sells for $300+, but it has just been discontinued for it's replacement, the P330. Since this is an annual (or semi-annual) event with most camera manufacturers (of compact cameras), you can often pick up an outstanding camera at a low price when they first become discontinued.

However, when this happens you have to act farily quickly as the stock is limited to what is on the dealer's shelves.

Why do I like the P310?

First, it has manual exposure controls (prorgam, shutter/aperture priority, manual), This gives you maximum flexibility in composing your photos.

Second, it has a fast f/1.8 lens, which rivals even the better grade DSLR lenses. What does this mean? Superior low-light performance, as the camera will gather 2 to 4 times more light than the typical compact camera.

It also does up to 1920x1080p @ 30fps "full" HD with stereo audio. But I am not much into video so that is not something I often use. If I want to do video, I have a camcorder for that.

And I own this camera, so it is not something I would recommend without having some experience with it. While the zoom range of this camera is less than those ridiculously high-powered zooms on bridge cameras, the lens on the P310 is vastly superior to those cameras. So while you won't be able to take a photo of a bird from a mile away, you will be able to take better photos within the range of the P310's zoom.

Is there a camcorder you can buy for under £2000 that produces almost movie-quality videos?

Lord Herpo

I know absolutely nothing about camcorders and have never owned one, however my brother is an avid youtuber (mostly producing videos of people outdoors) and would like to buy him a mid-range to high-end one for no more than £2000 for his 21st birthday. All good advice and recommendations appreciated.

p.s. please don't start yapping on about what price boundaries constitute 'high-end' and 'mid range', I couldn't care less, I really just want a decent camcorder.
p.p.s. Also, before anyone mentions it I already know that imax and other movie cameras can cost hundreds of thousands, so I'm not expecting that. But I'd like a camera that produces smooth, deep colour saturated and all round quality footage

Answer
You're absolutely right about the cost of cinema cameras, they cost far too much for most of us to buy. Before I go on, there is a key point to consider: Cinema cameras (even lower end ones) fall into two categories; film, and digital.

Film is mostly used in big budget productions, and even if it was affordable, it would be nigh-on useless for a YouTuber. So we can rule out any film camera.

Digital cameras are a lot cheaper and easier to use. However, most cinema ones record at a very high resolution (I am sure you are aware how resolution works as in a simple count of how many pixels make up the image). Most of our entertainment systems, including YouTube, are designed to cope with anything up to HD. This has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Digital cinema cameras record anywhere up to 8 times this. If you try uploading this to YouTube, it will fail dismally. For this reason, you should only shop for HD or 2K cameras. HD will be a lot cheaper.

The best image quality for price ratio comes when you look into a DSLR cameras. Primarily, they are designed for taking pictures. However, they are built very similarly to cinema cameras in the way that they are made up of modules: the lens, the video recorder, the audio recorder. Most modern DSLRs come with HD video recording. Although there are limitations, for your price range they are the best option. Because of the module-like system they use, they will also be a perfect way for your brother to learn about how cinema cameras work. I personally think learning is the best gift you can give someone. This way, when he moves into the industry, he will have learned the basics.

I've put a list below of the gear I would recommend for low budget filming. Most of the following items I personally own. Remember, audio is just as important as video, which is why I've listed some pricey audio gear. Another great thing about the audio gear is that it will last a lot longer than the video gear. Should, in a few years time, the actually camera body become out of date, that will be the only thing your bro will need to replace. All the other gear will still be perfect. I'll link to all the gear on Amazon.

Camera Body (part that records the video):

http://simplevideoediting.com/learn/part2_connect_camcorder.htm

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition.

Answer
If you are really on a budget and want the best quality for the money, check out the P&S Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 [with a Leica lense] which has more features than most pro DSLRs that require auxiliary lenses not even equal to the single initial full-range lense that comes with the FZ28. It is reviewed at:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/panasonic_fz28.html

It just came out on November 4, 2008.

It's an all-in-one 10.1 megapixel digital camera which includes (i) built-in image stabilization; (ii) HD720 quality video [Quicktime] which permits zooming while videoing skateboarding, action sports; (iii) a 18x zoom [27 - 486 mm (35mm equiv.)] "Leica" lense for nature and concert photography; (iv) up to 0.39 inch macro option; (v) up to 6400 ASA; (vi) takes up to 380 pictures per 120 min. battery charge; (vii) has a "burst speed" of 13 fps; and sells new for $270 at amazon.com. in the U.S.

Here's an actual handheld picture of the moon:

can you use a coleman xtreme sports waterproof HD wearable helmet video camcorder to record normal videos?

Katie Fort

If I get this, can I use it to record normal videos, like of my friend singing and stuff for youtube?

Answer
The camcorder does not care what the subject is. Start recording and point the camera at the subject.

Video and audio quality may not be ideal. Just because the camera is being used to capture something other than sports stuff is not going to have the camera stop working...

Was the 3DS worth it?

best kids camcorder 2011

best kids camcorder 2011 image

That Guy

I could have Checked a review for this question but I'd rather hear from customers not an editor in IGN. Was the 3DS worth it? I don't want to hear Andy "well if your into these games" no thanks I want to hear what you think.

Answer
Well, I have own the Nintendo 3DS since April 6 2011.

And it was 100% Worth it to me.

Because I can play music (even with the system close).

I can LOWER the VOLUME of 3D so it does NOT give you headaches for the first time in your life (if you're the kind of person to ever get headaches from 3D, otherwise just turn the 3D all the way up).

And I can also turn the 3D OFF Completely.

And 3D is good for working out our eye muscles & brain to keep them in shape as shown in this link:

http://www.aoa.org/x17309.xml

And it has a Joystick.

And all the 3DS Games, including the Downloadable 3D Games are in 7.1 Surround Sound and I have been using my "PLANTRONICS GAMECOM 777" to play everything on my 3DS when I am at home, and the best example of 7.1 Surround Sound so far for me is Zelda 3D and 2nd is Thor 3DS (I just leave the separate microphone plug, unplugged, because the 3DS has a Very Excellent Built-in microphone, but also there is no place to plug it in for the 3DS).

And the Nintendo 3DS does everything in 60 fps (which makes it the only electronic that plays Video Games in 60 fps, because all other electronics only do 30 fps for everything)

And the Nintendo 3DS has downloadable 3D Music videos from today's American music artist which I have already downloaded the 3 free 3D Music Videos to watch anywhere and the 3DS has 3D "Blue Man Group" video and College Humor (in 3D) with the FREE "Nintendo Video" App that you can download (but its 4 3D Videos at a time and they replace them once in a while) and I can download cheap downloadable 3D Apps & 3D games costing from 99 cents to $5.99 and the Nintendo 3DS also has FREE downloadable 3D Apps & 3D Games, which I have already downloaded 3 Free 3D Apps and I have downloaded 2 Free 3D Games and the 3DS has a 3D Camera and I have already used the 3DS 3D Camera to take 3D photos and I have uploaded some of my 3D footage online using the Nintendo 3DS's Web Browser to upload my 3D footage online and I have used my 3DS Web Browser to also download other peoples 3D footage from the Internet on my 3DS Web Browser and I have view all sorts of 3D content on 3D Websites online on my 3DS's Web Browser and I have use my 3DS 3D Camera to play 3D Augmented Reality games as well and it's all in 3D without the Glasses using the 3DS 3D Camera and It has beautiful 3D HD graphics that equal to that of a 3D HD version of Wii Graphics and I have Streamed 3D Videos Online on my 3DS in the eShop and I have also Watch 3D Trailers for upcoming 3D movies coming to Theaters in 3D and I have done all of this in 3D Without the Glasses.

And the 3DS with a Wi-Fi Update can RECORD 3D Videos in 60 fps (unlike other camcorders, that only Record in 2D Only and in up to 30 fps only).

So for $249 (when I got it, but it's $169 now) for Nintendo 3DS I can look forward to buy the greatest Games ever, and all in 3D Without the Glasses like Cave Story 3D and Kid Icarus and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 using the MOTION SENSORS to play the game like if you were turning a real steering wheel to turn the Kart left & right and also play such other 8 GB 3D Games like TheatRhytem Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts 3D and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D and Crush 3D and Shinobi and Animal Crossing and Rodea the Sky Soldier and Michael Jackson: the Experience 3D and Ridge Racer 3D and Super Street Fighter 4 3D and Monster Hunter 4 and Golden Sun 4 and Star Fox 3D and Zelda 3D and Sonic Generations 3D and Tetris 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations and Tales of the Abyss 3D and Tekken 3D which also has the 3D Movie Tekken the Movie 3D in it to watch and also play other 8 GB 3D HD games as Spider Man 3D and 100% of the 3DS games are in HD 3D Without the Glasses.

Also, the screen is perfectly fine, in terms of resolution. Anyway, itâs the pixel density that matters, not the actual number of pixels. The 3DS pixel density is MUCH sharper than an average HD TV of, for example, 32 inches. Itâs perfectly fine. Not everything has to be 1080p you know. Since 1080p at 32 inches is worse than just 240p on the 3DS.

And they're making Angry Birds 3D as a downloadable game.

And the 3DS is getting DLC (Downloadable Content) like Xbox Live for a bunch of 3DS games to add content to the game later on for Free.

And 1 of the Free 3D Apps I have downloaded was Netflix.

And Netflix is getting 3D Movies in the next few months.

And 100% of the people who have said that they get headaches from 3D, have said that after up to 1 week of using the 3DS they NO LONGER get headaches anymore and that they now play with the 3D all the way up 100% all the time, non-stop.

But I have never had any problem with the 3D at all, but each person has a different experience with the 3D ON during the first week.

And you can now pay to download 3D Videos on the 3DS.

And the 3DS is getting Hulu Plus before the end of this year (2011) as a Free downloadable App and Hulu already has 3D Content.

What Should i get for xmas? Help!?

Hey so im a 16 year old guy and idk what to get for christmas! I already have a xbox, ipod, and computer, so dont say those. I was thinking about a 3ds cuz they looked cool, should i?!

Dan A

I'm looking for a camcorder with good night vision to be able to set up on the back of my house to be able to look into my wooded backyard. It's more for entertainment just to see what kind of animals are out there so I'd prefer it to be outdoor model but doesn't have to be. I could take it inside when not in use, I guess. I prefer to keep it under $100. I just want something decent with good quality but not expensive.

I would consider Vivitar Mini DV Camcorder (DVR-510) with 2GB Internal Storage, Night Vision - Black

Infraraed Night Vision

I've never heard of it, and Consumer Reports website doesn't have anything to say about it. Has anybody tried one of their products, and would you recommend it? Or was it a piece of s***?

Answer
I've never heard of that brand either. I wouldn't waste my money on a product that isn't well known. I've had two Sony camcorders and they both took excellent videos. I would not buy that Mitsuba. Save your money and get a better one.

What the heck does this red camcorder image sign mean in the Canon Li-ion?

Arvian

I have to finish this assignment due on September 9, and im having these annoying problems with my camcorder which is a Canon Li-ion. its really old, but it works. so I have to make a movie trailer. in this camcorder, you have the option to make a video on a tape, or on an SD card. I was planning to make my video on tape because number 1, its faster and not lagging, and number 2 it has better quality. but then the connecters I have (to connect the camcorder to my laptop for editing) don't work for some reason. so I have to use the SD card. I put a new SD card in, and tried recording. but everytime I press the start button, this weird red little camcorder image starts flashing on the lower left corner of the screen. my camcorder was fully charged, and it starts recording when its in tape mode. so I do not know what that red camcorder sign means. can you guys help me?

Answer
You need the exact model number of the camcorder. "Li-ion" is not that, it is the type of battery the camcorder uses.

Then go to canonusa.com . With the model number, you should be able to find the manual.

If not, do a web search for

Canon modelnumber manual

replacing "modelnumber" with the exact model number.

Download the manual.

Read the manual. It will tell you what the blinking red icon means.

does the speed of an HDSC card make much difference?

I'm buying my first video recorder (a Kodak Playsport), and am planning on buying a class 10 32gb HDSC card for it, but I'm confused about the speed thing. I don't know if I should buy a more expense faster card. Does it really make much of a difference?
Do you think a 133x/20mbs would be good for HD video?

Answer
the data rate is controlled by the camera, not the card. a Class 6 card should be fine for your Kodak. If the card class is too low, data will get scrambled and files corrupted, so it does make a difference. a class 10 card is pretty fast and usable on even the fanciest camcorders.

that being said, there are a lot of "fake" cards on the market that are marked as class 10 but in reality are a class 2 or 4. These are made in China and while not legal for export, are widely sold on eBay and other asian based internet businesses. So getting a card from a reliable source is very important.

What are your thoughts on the Kodak PlaySport Camcorder?

I need a cheap camcorder to record my high jumpers in track and field. Is this camcorder any good for this. Also can I transfer the files to my computer and what type of files will it upload to my computer. Should I invest the money on this camcorder or is there others I should consider?

Answer
The PlaySport would probably be fine for what you're talking about. It has 4x zoom which is twice as good as the Flip (but keep in mind it's digital, not actual optical zoom). It saves videos as MOV files and includes a USB cable and software to download them to your computer. It only has 128K internal memory so to record anything useful you'll need to get an SD memory card with it. Another pocket video camera you should look at is the Sony Bloggie touch. It's about $40 more than the Zx3 (or $20 less than the Zx5), doesn't need a memory card, and has a bigger screen.

How much sound quality is lost with camcorder formats that result in greater compression?

yet-knish!

I want to buy a camcorder to record myself playing music and am deciding on format. I understand that videos made with HDD and flash memory camcorders will have greater compression--how much will this affect the sound?

Answer
the audio on miniDV is uncompressed 48k, 16 bit sampled digital sound. If you get a camcorder that allows exernal mics you can achieve truly professional results. Typical DVD audio compression is 7:1 MPEG3 which is reasonably good. I believe HDD and flash is higher compression, but i don't have a number for you.

What camcorder that is under $1000 can record high quality videos like this one?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPHQohteRAc&feature=feedu

i want to make music videos with clear videos like that one but i dont know what camera to get. Also, was that video edited? if so, in what program?

Thanks!

Answer
Okay, Im pretty happy first of all because...MEGAN AND LIZ!

Now onto the question. For the sound quality of this video, it was pre recorded so you probably wouldn't be able to get that from a camcorder. Second of all, they do edit their videos. And third or all, Im not sure (though I assume) that they already work in studios, so their equipment probably (key word, probably) costs more than 1 grand. :) Hope i helped.

Is there any way to transfer video from a Sony DVD Camcorder to IMovie?

Mister Fiz

"The Missing ManualâIMovie 6 and IDVD" states that they are incompatable. I am wondering if since this book was published they have created the necessary connection (something similar to Firewire) to now make it possible to load movies from this camera to my Mac.

We would really like to get our daughter's movies on our computer and be able to edit them in IMovie......Thank You

Answer
nj_nyc is correct - BUT only if your mac uses a drawer-loading optical drive.

If your Mac has a slot loading optical drive, NEVER put a miniDVD in that drive. You will end up breaking the drive and scratching the disc. You should either get an external drawer loading drive (like http://www.lacie.com/us/products/range.htm?id=10014 )
OR
use the AV cables that came with the camcorder and get an analog/digital bridge from Canopus http://canopus.com/products/videoconversion.php and transfer they video over firewire.

Q. I want a nice video camera, that also takes pictures. but our last camera was a kodak so we wanted to stay with that.
My dad wants the camera for pictures and i want it to make youtube videos.
any suggestions? and we do not want a very expensive one.

Answer
I have a kodak sport. And i really like it because it is water proof as well which is always a plus and i got it for under 150. however the pictures arent that great for some reason the color seems to be too much. Like i have blue eyes but they arent like amazing wow blue. But when i take a pic of myself it is pretty darn blue. The color is just a little weird. But the video is amazing and water proof that is really comforting and its durable so you cant go wrong with those features.

Should I buy an HD camcorder or a digital camera with HD video?

Hawkinator

My friends and I want to make short films and I was look for any suggestions on any good cameras that can shoot in HD. I noticed a lot of people I know have been filming with a Canon 7D, but way too expensive. I'm looking to spend anything around $200. Iwas thinking of getting a Kodak z950. I really want to get a digital camera because the last camcorder I had was too noisy and would be noticable in our movies. Any good suggestions? I need this asap.

Answer
If you want to take high quality videos (1080p), then you need a camcorder, not just a digital camera. I have used both, trust me, there is a difference. Unless quality isn't an issue, go for the camcorder.

A noisy camcorder would be from either 1: the tape being written on. or 2: poorly put together lenses that are loud as they focus and zoom. I can't say I've ever had a noisy camcorder problem though.

Here is what I use: Kodak Zi8
It only costs $179 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002J9G60S?ie=UTF8&tag=robert0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002J9G60S

I actually used the Sony HDR-CX110 HD (cost me $600) camcorder for a while but then returned when the quality was barely better than my little Kodak Zi8.

The Kodak Zi8 films in 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps (the second one is great for sports or filming while snowboarding).

For short films is a must have over the flip since it has an external mic input and the flip does not. This ALONE makes the Kodak Zi8 worth it. Also, it's only $179 on Amazon. Search YouTube for videos made with the Kodak Zi8 if you want to see the quality for yourself.

What kind of video camera should I buy to shoot a sporting event?

good video camera for action sports image

Larry

I may be hired to work as a freelance videographer for high school sporting events. The company wants me to use my own equipment to shoot the games, which I am in the process of getting. They recommend I have an HD Prosumer camera. I've done some research, and I saw the Canon VIXIA HF G10 was pretty good and not overly priced. Does anyone have any recommendations about what other types of video cameras I can buy or give any more input about this camera I've look into? Also, is it best to get a camera that has the viewfinder on the side of the camera or on top of it?

Answer
For sports/fast action, generally something that does not do high compression AVCHD. Like a Sony HDR-FX7. Of course, this assumes your computer has a firewire port. If it does not and you are not willing to add one, then the Canon HF G series is decent.

You will also want a tripod (it can double as a monopod is you only extend one leg). You really should not capture video handheld. And your computer may need upgrading (CPU, RAM, fast external hard drive, video editor) to deal with the AVCHD compressed video.

If you are capturing on a bright sunny day, the LCD panel can be difficult to see - so the eyepiece viewfinder is much more useful.

An optional high capacity battery from the camcorder manufacturer is a good idea.

A shoulder-mount rig may be helpful, too.

If someone runs into you and breaks the camera, who pays to fix it?

Good luck.

What is the best semi profesional video camera?

Caleb

I am looking for a semi professional video camera that shoots 1080p HD. The two things it needs to have a mic input and either a built in memory or a SD card slot (preferably a SD card slot but not necessary). I would like it to be able to take both 30 fps and 60 (it would be nice but not necessary). I don't have a opinion as to what brand but it needs to be around the $1000 or less range.

Answer
semi professional, its a lot of perception, like is the glass half full or half empty. if a camera is not professional, then it is consumer grade, period. If you want to think that a consumer camera is "just like" a pro camera but costs less then that is your perception. but for a reality check, remember that's not true.

the first point is no professional camcorder uses SD cards for media. Those are ok for still shots, but they require super compression of video by a codec that does not hold up to professional use. And professional videographers shoot for the purpose of making money, not "prestige". They need to usually provide a client with a DVD of the finished work. The only consumer HD format that can make decent DVDs is the miniDV based HDV type which is not SD card or under $1000. When Sony invented AVCHD, it was never intended for pro use, but for people to show off home movies directly from the camera without editing. Same can be said for H.264 which is a public variant of Sony proprietary AVCHD. Having a mic input does not magically result in HiFi sound if the memory card based camcorder compresses the bejeebers out of the audio, and all do. Speaking of editing, AVCHD and H.264 have no support for timecode.

for the purpose of making DVDs, whether wedding/event, music video or action sport genres, the weapon of choice is miniDV. You can still get a consumer miniDV camera, the Canon ZR960 has a retail price way under $1000. It shoots in 16:9 so once it is on DVD, it will look better than any consumer SD card based HD camera.

How much should I charge to film and edit basketball games?

There youth basketball games, hockey games, all sports. How much should I charge the parents. For some people I will be doing highlights, for some people I will just record the seasons for them, and clean them up in the editing rooms. How much per game or season, is $20 a game too much?

Answer
is it just one parent on the team asking for the videos? if more than one want the same thing, then you can charge less for copies, since it's very cheap to make a copy once you are done - $20 for the one - if 3 parents want copies, then make it $15 each - you get $45 total for the game. video camera are so cheap anymore - almost everyone who has kids in sports probably already has one

that's a lot of time spent editing - how much per hour will that come to for your $20?

I would charge probably $10 per game per copy just for an unedited video of each game - let the people do their own editing - the kids can probably figure that out on their own

can i get images of speeding vehicles and report them to the police?

LIAM H

I live on a not very busy road but at the bottem is a sport complex (where youths hang out on friday nights) and they speed down the road sometimes 2 or 3 racing, if i park my van with the door open with a camera on a tripod and they are speading can i take a picture and then use it as evidence and report it to the police??

Answer
You can submit a video in a plea for stricter enforcement. I'm not sure they would issue tickets based on video you took though. Still photos probably wouldn't actually show speed.

I'm looking for a camcorder to buy, something that will not give me the whole 'home movie' effect and feel to it. I will also need a tripod so it won't be shakey and all that but could you just tell me some good inexpensive camcorders that will give me what i'm looking for. I don't know much about camcorders and lenses but i'm looking into it. If anyone can help me with brands and prices of camcorders to look into I will be very thankful.

-M

Answer
By "something that will not give me the whole 'home movie' effect and feel," I think your talking about the film-look. It can be replicated, through either software or in-camera. However, both these options are pretty expensive, and it doesn't sound like you have that much money right now. I'll get to that later, but for now I'm going to talk about cameras.

I dont know your budget, but from what you said, Im guessing you want a camera probably $800 or below (correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll re write this). In that price range, I cant recommend any particular camera, but follow these rules and you should have a pretty good beginner filmmaking camera:

1. Get miniDV- pretty obvious isn't it?
2. Look for a lot of manual functions- every cam has auto functions, but look for the ability to switch to manual focus, iris, shutter, etc.
3. 3ccds are better than 1
4. The newest isnt always the greatest- not really a rule but basically dont go and get the newest thing that just came out

Other plusses are mic ports, headphone ports, hot shoes, and optical image stabilizer.

If you get a tripod, get one with a fluid head. I'm not recommending a particular one, but look around on google. To tell you the truth, Im not exactly a pro on tripods. But a useful trick that you can do with your tripod is screw on your camera, and instead of opening up the legs, hold the legs together and walk with it. If you do it right, the tripod will absorb the shake from your hands giving you a very cheap steadicam effect.

I hope this helped, and I'm a filmmaker as well, and I always like meeting other filmmakers so feel free to contact me at evilgenius4930@yahoo.com

What are some good blogs or websites for independent filmmaking?

I want to learn how to make a film so I want to do my own research but I'm not sure what are reliable sources of information.
