the price won't matter
make sure its a digital camcorder not a minidv
I have been searching the internet for the best digital camcorders to use to start filming for youtube videos. I have found one camcorder called the HDR-XR520V 240GB High Definition Handycam® Camcorder i believe its the best one so far. I just wanted to know if there are any other camcorders that are better than this one, and I don't want any minidv camcorders right now. The link to the camcorder i listed above is below.

"Best" and price does not matter?
Red Scarlett or Red One, or something from Silicon Graphics.
Less than that? In the pro environment, Canon XLH series, XH series, Sony HVR series or something in the XDCAM or HD cam series, Panasonic AG-HVX series...
Interesting you say you want "Best" but are willing to settle for a highly compressed video stream that comes in the form of AVCHD/MTS files from a consumer grade hard disc drive camcorder that can stream at only 24mbps... HDV does 25mbps whether consumer or pro grade. Higher is better. The "DV" in miniDV = Digital Video"... just because it is on tape does not make it any less digital than hard disc drive or flash memory. It is still a series of zeroes and ones but it is better video quality because HDV is compressed so much less than AVCHD/MTS... Compressed digital vide = discarded video data = reduved video quality. Don't drink from the manufacturer's hype koolaid pitcher.
But... if you insist... The Sony HVR, XDCAM and HDCAM systems have an optional external drive that will write to HDV format. The Panasonic HDX200 will write HD format video (but not AVCHD) to P2 flash memory and the Sony HVR-Z7 will write HDV format video to compact flash cards... and any miniDV camcorder that Focus Enhancements states is compatible with their external hard drives (FireStore) to capture DV and HDV format video will be fine.
If you insist on "best", it certainly is NOT in that consumer-grade Sony HDD AVCHD/MTS camcorder... I'd suggest skipping HDD camcorders (too many known issues with vibration and altitude and problems with the editing process flow) and suggest flash memory instead - the file types are the same mediocre AVCHD/MTS files, but at least the storage is removeable (consider your reaction when the camcorder is broken/lost/stolen)... The Canon HF S series is worth a look for consumer-grade camcorders - no moving parts (except zoom and focus) means longer battery life. Since the video files are the same whether consumer HDD or consumer flash memory, the video quality will be the same. And if your computer cannot handle a firewire connection (required for miniDV tape), then this would be your only option.

camcorder and digital camera advice please?
rebsqt
I'm looking for advice about purchasing a hard-drive camcorder. I need one that will last a while, is affordable, easy to use, and is compatible with purchasing additional storage. Anything else I should consider and does anyone have any recommendations? I'm also looking to purchase a new digital camera. I think I like the Sony Cybershot. I had a kodak easy share for my first camera and am looking to replace it. I want something that will take good clear pictures and good action shots. I have an almost two year old who will be the star of it all! :) Thanks in advance
