The microphone doesnt have to be the absolute best but im wondering what hd camcorder is the best for shooting music videos for under 200$
Answer
"the best price and quality for music videos?" I like the Sony HDR-FX1000.
For your budget? We get to pick mostly from Point and shoot cameras that can capture video as a convenience feature. I like the Canon PowerShot line.
Tips:
1) Be sure the lighting is REALLY good. Outside on a sunny day - bright fog-filtered is really good.
2) Use some sort of steadying device... tripod, chair, shelf, rock - anything, but not handheld.
3) Use pre-recorded audio. The mics in the point and shoots are not so good.
4) Be very careful with editing.
5) Capture in highest quality.
6) Have a compelling subject and story line.
If you learn the limitations of the camera and figure out how to use them to your advantage, you can do good work with inexpensive equipment... For example, this

was recorded using a 6 year old cell phone (not a smart phone - check the post date) in less than standard definition video quality and edited with consumer grade, free (bundled with Macintosh operating system), iMovie, on a 8 year-old Mac.

What kind of camcorder for amateur music video?
I am looking to make a very low budget music video... and a series of low budget kind of documentary type videos. My question is what kind of camcorder would be good enough for the job? I have a budget of $300 at the most would like to keep under $250 for the camera. I need something with good quality and is compatible with a MAC. Thank you to anyone who helps.
Answer
Forget Mini-dvd tooooooo many problems. if you are going to add music after the video has been taken then the audio quality is not going to matter so much, (most camcorders mics are not very good)
you have a choice of mini-dv (highest quality (Tape)) then media card then Hard drive the last is out of your budget.
If video quality is high on your list then go for Mini-dv if you are going to post it to a video website then the importance of high quality is not so important then go for media card cameras.
Depending on your Mac as they developed Firewire (IEEE1394) then that will work fine on a mac. you will need to check with the camcorder makers to see if a media card camera will be ok on your Mac even if its not there are plenty of video converters around.
Good luck
