Night Vision Camcorder?

Anyone have any good ideas for a Night vision Camcorder, obviously ill be doing a lot of night shots, but i want to stay within the range of 200-400 dollars, please be specific in your models please if you have any to offer. Thanks again.

Yes, a Sony miniDV camcorder will be your best bet. Almost all those night vision cameras you see on ghost hunting and nature shows are Sony miniDV camcorders with the Nightshot feature.

None really, they're just infrared sensitive. On the camera there's a small infrared light. You can't see it with the naked eye, but when turning on the night-shot, the camera's CCD becomes extremely infrared sensitive. The overwhelming majority of these cameras will operate about the same with only minor differences. Sony, Canon, and Panasonic have been longstanding with camcorders and will be solid choices.

Heh, there were complaints with one model of camcorder some years back. What had happened was that it was too sensitive. With that, people's privates would have a slight glow to them. the problem was fixed in later models.

Where can I buy a good camcorder with IR night vision still currently manufactured?

I'm looking into buying a camcorder for all purposes but some of those purposes involve filming in the dark. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any good camcorders with night vision still being manufactured and I would like the model to also be fairly new (2010-2011). If you know of any an answer would be greatly appreciated.

a check of amazon.com for "nightshot" turned up a number of new camcorders, mostly in the Sony DCR HCxx series. this is miniDV. Aiptek, a Chinese brand claims to have a similar feature but i wouldn't recommend their cameras. Sonystyle has no nightshot cameras listed as available.

Can anyone recommend an HD camcorder that is good in low light conditions?

With my conventional (non high def), mini dv camcorder, night scenes (i.e in a street where the only light comes from street lamps) is fairly good but slightly fuzzy. Could a high def camcorder produce a better picture in theory, or would it simply be a higher resolution of fuzz?
I know it DEPENDS on 101 different factors but I only need some rough info.

My son's Christmas concert is today at school and I forgot to charge the camcorder last night. If the school will allow me to, can I actually use the camcorder while the charger is on and plugged into the wall in the auditorium, and not have the battery die on me?

I have to leave the house in an hour.

His part in the program is only for about ten minutes or less..

I'm a paranormal investigator and am looking to use my camcorder only at night. I know that I have to purchase IR lights. How do I attach them? Also, do I need to remove a blocker from inside the lens?

The IR lights can be used independently from your cam. Just point them in the same direction as the camera lens.
Unless you have a videocam with a nightshot setting such as some of the Sony models, you will have to remove the anti-alias filter in front of the imaging sensor. Whether removing this (often tiny) filter is economically viable, is very debatable because after its removal the distance between the lens and sensor must be recalibrated, and requires specific knowledge of the camera type used, and quite often, special instruments with very fine tolerances.
Before having your camera converted, you could try whether its IR sensitivity is enough to pick up some of the IR beams of your IR illuminator. A simple test will do: point the IR remote of your tv set towards your camera in the dark, press a few buttons on your remote, and check whether or not your videocam recorded any of the IR signals/flashes from your remote. This will give you an indication of the IR recording capabilities of your camera.

Alternatvely, you could look at various night scopes with a so-called video-out jack. They can be expensive, but the $398 Yukon Ranger 5x42 LT for instance (see link below), has a (NTSC) video output which lets you attach a (portable) video recording device, and has built-in IR flashlight.
