kodak play sport camera and extreme cold water?

Just received my camera today, and figure the first time I can use it underwater would be at my city's annual polar bear swim. For those not in the know, They basically cut a hole in the ice, and in you hop. I know the camera is waterproof to a certain extent, but was wondering if extremely cold water would somehow damage it. I know its a silly question, but I'm not well educated in cameras!

Ok thats cold.

Most cameras dont like very cold or hot temperatures. forget the hot, cold causes components to contract, I am not sure if it would be enough to let the cameras seals leak! there is no information on the website, look in the handbook.

Cold apart from the above, it will seriously reduce the battery life, batteries are different so how much is a suck it and see. maybe try it in a bucket with ice and water. and see if it effect the battery.

i want to get a really nice camera. i would like one that takes really crisp and clean close up shots, night shot, action shots (for sports), one where the zoom is really far. this will be my first advanced camera but i learn quick so complicated and price play no role. got any good ones in mind

casio exilim <best camera right there. i use it every day. it has a lot of different options like splashing water, sports, candle light, and like 40 more. good luck! great to buy at wal-mart by the way =]

Beware of buying cheap. That is where rip off artists make a living. Don't buy from anyone that you haven't checked out. I check out places with http://www.resellerratings.com/rlist-s1-n2.html.

I start my shopping at Amazon.com and see if I can beat the price with an "on sale" price at some reliable vendor.

I own a Canon A720 IS that I have an Ike Lite underwater housing for.

I use the camera for both above and below surface. The housing is rated to 200 feet depth, which is probably a little deeper than you plan on using one. :)

Is a go pro hero 3 worth it for mostly water sports?

I have been dying to get a go pro 3 (silver or black) but before I buy it I want to make sure it's worth putting my money in to. I would be using it mostly for water sports and under water such as snorkeling. How is it for shooting underwater and is there anything I should know before shooting underwater? Thanks.

Are you planning on mounting it (to you or anything else), or just holding it? If mounting is in the plans, it's a great option. If not, it's still a good option since the 3's have a flat lens for sharp underwater focus, etc. There are tons of 3rd parties making diving accessories for it - look at BackSkatter for some sweet filter options, etc. The link the other guy showed had many SeaLife camera options, and I've read they don't produce very good image quality. Also, not sure if any of the ones on that link are mountable, besides maybe a 1/4-20 thread.
I used my 3 for the week I was just in Hawaii. Snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, driving around, timelapses, etc - it was great. Probably had it in a mount 3/4 of the time - an extending pole mount was awesome for much of what I was doing.
