Hey,
See, my church is really starting to grow and our youth group has grown a lot too. We are gradually starting to do more activities and I was wondering if any of you had any ideas that I can tell my youth pastor. Ideas for the fall/winter are most needed though. I am Church Of Christ(don't know if thatmatters, but I asked one person before for ideas and they asked what kind of church I go to.), So yea...I appreciate any ideas.
Answer
there are loads of things you can do with a group of youngsters, many depend on how many youngsters you have and what kind of facilities are local to you.
Our youth group did everything from the standard swimming and bowling trips to evenings out at the theater where we got a great group discount! Check out your local leisure and sports centers, talk to them and they may give you tips on other less known places, they tend to know their competition!
On a smaller budget we often ran scavenger hunts, hiding glow sticks round the town one year when the nights were dark and giving them a camera to take photo's of their group posing in a their version of a photo that was taken in broad daylight. great for sticking in church publicity too!
indoors we kept on with the general activities all year round, junk modeling shoes with a catwalk display, daft group games, coking evenings (hot food and cold nights) we even had a jelly fight (semi solid jelly replaces the traditional water) taking advantage of the rain we knew was coming. the highlight of the terms activities was a posh ball at the end just before christmas with formal wear and a slap up meal served by the youth and church leaders!
One thing we are big on is tailored activities, find out about what you kids love and use that as a springboard. Writers met artists as the kids produced christmas video's for a service, fashion diva's loved the junk modeling, we had some of the guys create a obstacle course on evening. let their imagination do the work! there are also literally thousands of sites that give both ideas for group games and activities so do a web search and see the resources pour in. most of the ideas sites are free too!
hope some fo this helps
