Sony or Panasonic camcorder?

c

Okay, so these are the camcorders I'm tossing up between at the moment:

Sony HDR-SR1

Sony HDR-PJ10E

or

Panasonic SDR-S50

Which of these would you recommend? And if none of them, could you suggest some others? I really wanted to get the Sony HDR-XR150 but it's been discontinued :(

Answer
I would recommend a Canon MiniDV tape camcorder. I would do this to save you disappointment you will have when you you take your new HD camcorder, shoot something moving and discover that all HD camcorder in the Consumer level, interpolate the video, making the video near impossible to edit and motion videos mostly unwatchable. When the HD camcorder interpolates the video, what it does is not good for editing, You see, if you used one of those camcorders to shoot a video, say it was 1000 frames long. Of those 1000 frames, 800 of them were not shot or recorded by the person holding the camcorder. Those 800 frames were made by electronic circuitry within the camcorder and the are throughout the video, like this - one frame from lens assembly, 7 or 8 from the electronics within the camcorder, one frame from lens assembly, 7 or 8 from the electronics within the camcorder, one frame from lens assembly, 7 or 8 from the electronics within the camcorder, one frame from lens assembly, 7 or 8 from the electronics within the camcorder, From front to end of the video. Then there is the issue of the Multi core computer with a big graphics and sound card that is needed to view, edit and work with HD video.

Good HD Panasonic camcorder?

Try to give a link to the camcorder and if you can find the camcorder on bhphotovideo.com and post that link. I am looking at around $500-900.

this is the camcorder page on panasonic's web page.
personally i don't like panasonic and id go for sony but your choice.
it really depends what you want the camera for. if you want to take pictures and videos of memories that you wont want to edit much or preferable at all then you should definately go for a minidisc camcorder or a dvd camcorder (they are the same except one has a standard size dvd and one has a minidisc) they have pretty much no difference except the actual camera can be smaller if you get a minidisc one. ok so if you want to edit your footage then id get a harddrive one. the reason for this is the discs in most of those cameras are too advanced for stndard editing programs (ive got one) and that makes EXTREMELY hard to find a program to edit with. but i do prefer the disc cameras and have found a program to edit them which i can give you the name of if you would like. also a little tip if you are looking at getting a disc one. if you are shotting takes on something turn the camera off between each one (im not sure if this is panasonicbut a lot do this). otherwise all the stopped and started takes go in one folder and that doesnt sit well with most editing programs where as if they are in different files then they are far easier to handle and to get the one you actually want rather than having them all run after one another without a break.
if you click the type of camera you want on this page then you will get many examples in your price range.
good luck and email me if you need help with something

Answer
HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

DSLR Cameras, all Makes, all Models, all have the same problem when video taping some long videos, all overheat at the 13 to 18 minute mark, depending on the Make and Model. This is unavoidable, it all has to with the fact, video is an afterthought in DSLR camera production.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

Need a camcorder for India Trip?

Garret

I have looked all over the internet but there are very few "good" reviews for camcorders. Not sure if ppl do not use them anymore or if I'm just searching wrong.

I will be going to India on a mission/vacation. I want to be able to record most of the day so need good battery life. I would like full HD for some things but will be happy with 720 for other things like when im working with locals and just want to capture the moment and 1080 for the Taj Mahal. If you can direct me to some good reviews I would be really happy or would love even more to hear first hand of some of the camcorders you have used. I want to say in the budget area but will spend the money for a good item. I am find with the small compact like flip or larger ones like cannon vixia toshiba camileo up to the ones with view finders since they really are about the same size. Any help is much appreciated. Somewhat time sensitive b/c I would like to used the camcorder for a full week before my trip and that is about 7 weeks way from now.

Answer
If you want a good HD camera within a decent price range. Check on the Kodak Zi8. I have that one and it does beautifully. You can change between 1080p, 720p 60FPS, 720p 30FPS, and SD videos. It even has 5.1MP stills, but I don't use that. The best thing about it is the external mic jack, which allows you to use a better microphone, which Flip cameras do not have. As well as an SD card slot, which allows countless hours of recording.

what is a good camcorder that has the following things?

Sam Lerman

What is a good camcorder that has the following things:

- Minimum of 10x optical zoom

- Great playback on PC and TV quality (And if HD videos can play on a standard box television and standard box-like computer, then preferably HD quality)

- HDD or SD Card camcorder

- Doesn't take up too much space on the computer

- Compatible with Windows Movie Maker

Please also, unless you don't know, mention where you can buy this camera.

Answer
Since Microsoft MovieMaker can't deal with HDV or AVCHD, that drops all 1080i or 1080p camcorders off the list. As well, Panasonic and JVC fall off the list because they use a ".mod" file type for the highly compressed MPEG2 video they store. Since you specified HDD or SD cards, that drops MiniDV tape (which provides best available video quality - but it is your decision) and DVD based (which provide the worst available video - good you dropped these). Since you specified SD memory, that drops some Sony cams off the list (they use Memory Sticks).

That leaves
Canon FS series (SD)
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=173

Sony (standard def HDD)
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=3555

and maybe Samsung (which I would not bother with, so no link - sorry).

Since you didn't tell us your budget, you get to finish narrowing it down.

Shop Amazon.com, bhphotovideo, adorama, frys... if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is - don't get sucked into price scams.

"Doesn't take too much room on the computer" is up to you. If you want high quality video, you cannot compress it very much. If you want small space, either the video is very short or you compress it a lot - you cannot have high compression, high quality, long video clip length and expect it to take up a small space on the computer - It does not work that way.

minidv camcorder records dot on video?

whodouthin

when i film anything with my camcorder (canon zr85) i get this one dot (kinda like a dead pixel) when i record or take a picture with it...
here's a few screen shots, one of my keyboard, and the other of my keyboard zoomed in (optical zoom), to prove that it doesn't move with the picture..its in a fixed location..i made the one part of the picture bigger, to show it more clearly...they are 2 different pictures.

(the pics are in the extra details)

does anyone know what it is from, or how to fix it?...
(i think its a faulty sensor on it, it is about 4 years old.)

flickr/photos/33953133@N02/3162148174/
opps..add the dot com part after flickr for the pics..sorry.

Answer
Probably a hot pixel. Not too uncommon. But the ZR85 had some CCD issues. This caused distorted video, and could be the cause of the problem. To get this fixed, contact Canon. They will replace the defective part at no charge. Here's full info:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=818&id=29819&keycode=2112&modelid=9739

can't guarantee that's your issue, but if you haven't had the CCD issue fixed, you could get a new CCD and have your issue resolved in the deal...

What is the best Waterproof HD video camera for the buck?

Scoobs

What is the best Waterproof HD camera for the buck? I am going on a cruise and am in the pool often and i am looking for an HD video camera that is waterproof. I was very interested in the Kodak Play Sport that just came out. Its is only $150. My price range is below or around $200. I already have a sony tx1 that I use for other hd videos and pictures. So this is like a secondary "fun" camera that i can be rough with especially in the water. Thanks!

Answer
Get the Panasonic TS1.

You can see the kind of video it'll take from the link below.

p/s It uses AVCHD format -- which is okay for Windows 7 or latest Mac. But not okay if you have an old pc.

Youtube video camera for best quality videos?

Stephanie

I am going to start making youtube videos and wanted to know what was the best video camera to invest in. I keep seeing that everyone is suggesting the flip video cameras, is that really a good video camera? I want the camera to be under $500. Im looking for best quality video camera. Thank you!

Answer
I suggest the Kodak PlaySport Zx3.

The Kodak Play Sport Zx3 is easy to use, has a very good display, and takes very good video in normal light and good video in low light. It's waterproof to a depth of 10 feet and can shoot good 5-megapixel stills. However, it only has fair audio quality. Its on-board software makes basic editing and sharing videos online very easy to do.

Highs
A good HD pocket camcorder with very good video picture quality, display quality and ease of use; good low-light picture quality, image stabilizer, versatility and still camera. Moderately priced model.

Lows
Fair audio quality and battery life.

What is the best Hard Drive camcorder on the market?

Sandra D

I was planning on buying Sony SR47 (60 GB) hard drive camcorder, but I did not read too many good reviews on it.
($399.99)
Any suggestions??

Answer
Just to be clear - the Sony DCR-SR47 is an entry level, consumer grade, internal hard drive based camcorder. It is nowhere near "best".

Personally, I do not recommend internal hard drive based camcorders because of their known problems with vibration, loud audio, and high altitude... they can stop recording under these conditions. Flash memory and miniDV tape do not sffer from these problems. As well, HDD camcorders can be VERY challenging when the camcorder breaks and the video has not already been transferred to a computer. The removable media used by miniDV tape and flash memory can be used by other camcorders so access to the video is easier after camcorder failure.

The video file formats are the same when comparing HDD and flash memory - assuming the lenses and imaging chips are the same, the video quality from these camcorders is the same. The only difference is the storage media. Standard definition DV (used by miniDV tape based camcorders) is much less compressed and results in better video quality - again, assuming the lenses and imaging chips are the same size as the "equivalent" HDD and flash memory camcorders... MiniDV tape based camcorders require your computer to have a firewire port. HDD and flash memory camcorders use USB to copy the files - but many times those files need to be converted using a utility like MPEG StreamClip before a video editor can deal with it.

I strongly suggest you stay with miniDV tape (Sony DCR-HC62, Panasonic PV-GS320, Canon ZR960) or flash memory (Canon FS100) and skip hard disc drive camcorders. The ZR960 and FS100 have a mic jack (but no manual audio control) that other camcorders in this class do not have.

Why are there no 20 megapixel camcorders in market?

FreedomFig

We all know that there are cmos sensors with 15 megapixels resolution but these sensors are only be used for fotografy, not video. So,i would ask,why not for video???Is that because there are technical problems(like huge bitrate or no good video compression software in 2010)or....why??
Ok,we need also tv's with 15 megapixel resolution too to enjoy our films! Why are there no such tv's and cameras?Thank you..
Ok,we need also tv's with 15 megapixel resolution too to enjoy our films! Why are there no such tv's and cameras? Are there technical limits? If yes, thats because of the hardware or of the software?Thank you..

Answer
There is 39 megapixel camera:
http://www.hasselbladusa.com/products/h-system/h3dii-39.aspx

A camcorder must embroider with the image when shooting. 39MP images must repeatedly come. If you want to record them, you must have really powerful GPU. Powerful GPUs are heated, then you must cool them with a fan etc. It means, If you want to use that camcorder, you should be muscled, it will be huge and heavy.

In the past, computers are huge like this and processors had low frequency. I believe it will be possible what you want in future, but now, impossible.

MegaPixels show us a picture dimensions NOT dpi. So If you want to play a video which is 15MP or higherMP, your TV must be huge screen. Like this:

24MP picture ----> 213,33 cm x 142,22 cm TV panel (72dpi).
It is realy hard to have it.

kodak play sport camera and extreme cold water?

Cheryl

Just received my camera today, and figure the first time I can use it underwater would be at my city's annual polar bear swim. For those not in the know, They basically cut a hole in the ice, and in you hop. I know the camera is waterproof to a certain extent, but was wondering if extremely cold water would somehow damage it. I know its a silly question, but I'm not well educated in cameras!

Answer
Ok thats cold.

Most cameras dont like very cold or hot temperatures. forget the hot, cold causes components to contract, I am not sure if it would be enough to let the cameras seals leak! there is no information on the website, look in the handbook.

Cold apart from the above, it will seriously reduce the battery life, batteries are different so how much is a suck it and see. maybe try it in a bucket with ice and water. and see if it effect the battery.

two places to try first

1 your handbook

2 contact customer support.

Question about camcorders and youtube?

say im at a concert and record a song, pause the camcorder, record another song and so on, could I put them on youtube as seperate videos or would it have to be in the same video?

Answer
They do not put pause buttons on camcorder for one good reason, read on...

Because a Pause button will damage you internal recording mechanism, burn holes in your storage media and it goes on and on.

They have a start record button, pressing it once starts recording, press it again it stops recording. Press it a third time it starts recording, creating a second file on the storage device. This why they created NLE (Non Linear Editing) programs. Take all the different clips you have recorded, put them on the time line of the NLE and edit, and then create the DVD or file, which ever you need.

It is a good idea, every time you take a video, always, at first chance thereafter. To transfer your video to your computer, do not wait to fill the contents of your storage media, as that risks corruption of the file and much more. So get in your mind, shoot video, transfer ASAP

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You need a lesson on camcorder microphones. The standard Consumer level camcorder, HD or SD Microphones, are all the same. They get their best audio to a point about 4 feet from the camcorders microphone. The further than that you move, the audio capture quality diminishes. In a noisy environment, that fall off is near vertical.

So off you got with your camcorder, you get to the concert and your in the 17th row on the floor. The band comes on, you fire up your camcorder and start recording. the concert ends and off you go to your editing program. You get the footage on your computer, view it and this is what your hear. The audios best parts are of the bands biggest fan, sitting right in front of you, singing, talking, foot stomping, yelling and snorting. then the nearer background noises are mostly the same thing. The band, if they can be heard at all, are very faint in the background of the audio.

If you want the best possible audio, do what is required to get a feed from the mixer to camcorders MIC port or a Digital Audio recorder. Be prepared to offer the cable you need to use on their system, this means having many cables at your disposal. Then, because you cannot get to a microphone, have fun syncing the audio and video back together.

good camcorder under $400 for filming skateboarding ?

Q. wat is a good camcorder under $400 dollars that supports tripods

Answer
I think just about every camcorder has a tripod thread. You'll also need a ultra wide angle or fish eye lens for those typical skateboarding shots like a 0.25x. You'll need to know the filter thread size of the camcorder though to get the right one.

best camcorder under 400 dollars?

I am looking for a camcorder that is under 400 dollars. Mainly looking for something that is around 200 or close to 300 hundred. Im looking to shoot a short movie and maybe a good full length movie. I need one that is HD Night shot or vision is ok steady shake for shaky people. And im looking for one that is MiniDV. If i need anything else then please let me know.

Answer
Anything SONY or Samsung! I have a Sony Handycam and it is amazing! It was only $150 from Best Buy and it even has a remote so I can set my camera up on a tripod at soccer games and press record with the remote! My parents have a Samsung and theirs was $275! They have never complained about it!

How do you get the video to work on a Sony Bloggie Sport Camera?

Christophe

The recording ability doesn't work anymore and I've only had it for a week. It doesn't do anything when I hit record, but the regular pictures work fine.

Answer
Hi Christopher, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

Many flash-memory HD cameras won't let you start a new video recording unless a certain amount of free-memory is available (they also won't record video if a too-small SD card is inserted). Photos don't require the same large amounts of empty storage, so even though the SD card may not be completely full, you can still take stills but not video.

Off-load all your content onto a computer for safe storage, then use the camera's menu to erase some (or all) the video files (don't use your computer to do this!) and see if video recording is restored.

Otherwise, call or email Sony Support since your Bloggie is still in warranty.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

whats a good/mid range surfing (action sports) video camera?

jordy

preferrably below $1000 aus but up to $1500. it needs to have good zoom to get to the action thats possibly 50m+ away. fast fps and reasonable quality.
any ideas.

also if you have any knowledge of the topic whats some good vid cams for in-water shots (clearly need to be waterproof)?

thankyou

Answer
Waterproof cameras are not going to do what you want, nor have the quality, water proofing a camera is not difficult but can be expensive, you not only have to think about water , but also salt water, this is the kiss of death to electronic devices, and another thing sand, taking video on a beach where its going to be windy, if sand can get in it will.

You are better off getting a waterproof housing, they come in basically two flavours, the first being like a ziplock bag with a place for the lens at one end from about $120usd, the second is a hard casing, made from either plastic or metal, normally used for scuba diving from a few hundred to thousands. . if you are not going to be taking the camera scuba diving, (or to any great depth) then the ziplock bag will probably be good enough, but you are also going to have to attach a tripod to the camera, as there is no way in this world that you will be able to hold the camera steady enough.

So basicall you can use any camcorder and get a bag to fit it.

I would be looking at a flash drive camera, takes better video then HDD cameras, (not by a huge amount) ignore the digital zoom only look for optical zoom, the more zoom you use the more steady you have to be and a better tripod you will need. Battery life is better.

I would assume that audio will not be important to you, as beaches will give a huge amount of wind noise, making the audio unuseable, if it is important then an external mic would be help ful with a wind cover, over it, but you may have problems fitting it with a case.

As for makes and models, the main ones are best Canon, Sony, JVC, maybe talk to others who do the same thing, and see what they use,

What is the best camcorder for web videos and kids sports?

Hi. I've been going around in circles trying to find the best reasonably price camcorder to meet my needs.
First I need to be able to shoot videos to upload to our websites. These videos would most often be shot indoors in auditoriums or conference centers and would often involve interview-style type footage so sound quality is very important as well ease in uploading to the web.

Secondly, I would love to use this same camera for home video including kids sports (i.e. football, basketball, tennis). Any help is greatly appreciated as I am not a big technology person and every time I think I've found a camera, I read something about poor low-light video or poor audio that causes me to pause.

Thanks!

Answer
The biggest difference between camcorders is mostly about how they handle low light situations. So when you pay more, you'll get better quality (most likely).

The bigger the sensor, the better it can handle low light situations. But you'll only get bigger sensor when you pay more than 1200 dollar for a camera.

Anyway what I actually wanted to say was that it's best to get an external microphone. You could get the RODE videomic for when your filming events. I would get another microphone which you can hold in your hand for the interviews. You'll get way better sound and background noise will be less loud than with the RODE videomic or your built in microphone.

The RODE videomic uses a mini-jack for the sound, if you go for a camcorder below the 1200 dollar price it will most likely have a mini-jack connector for microphones. But most hand microphones use XLR plugs. So you'll need a female xlr to male mini-jack connector. You can get those at a music store, just ask them to make one for you.

A camera which you could use is the canon HV40. It still records on tape, but tape has less compression and is easier to edit. The only problem is that when you record one hour, you'll need to play back and transfer one hour. You'll need to play back the entire tape at the normal speed. So it can take a while. But HDV is way better than AVCHD. They sometimes also use it for television. AVCHD is never used for television broadcast.

what are the best hd video cameras under $300 that record sports well in low light conditions?

jdl12321

i know that the $300 is not a lot for an hd video camera and that it won't be the greatest video quality ever, but i'm just a college kid so my funds are limited to say the least. i record tennis matches with my brother, and we usually play at night, as well as basketball games (during the day). any thoughts?

Answer
no consumer HD camera can record sports action except as a blur. that is because of the super high compression. MPEG4, AVCHD and similar codecs record only one actual frame and then throw out the next 7, giving it a GOF factor of 8. on playback the missing frames have to be guessed at by interpolation, which gives blurry jumpy results.

the solution is to use the system most widely used by action sports videographers, which is miniDV. while not HD it can be shot in the widescreen mode so the picture will fill an HDTV screen. And you can get one for under $300, look at the Canon ZR960.

what are good hd camera's under $500?

Ms. musica

I want to start filming small things, and I don't have a lot of money right now so I'm starting off small. Want to know good brands of HD cameras that are out there, good quality, and picks up good sound. Any ideas?

Answer
HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. Best handheld hd camcorder under $600?

Jenna

I want to buy a good camcorder, it shouldn't be too small, but not extremely big either. I need i to be about 500 to 600 dollars. I might splurge up to 700 if it makes a huge difference. I need it to make short films and documentaries. I also want to buy an external microphone, so if you know which ones are good, tell me that too! :) (It doesn't have to be wireless)

Thank you!

HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. what are good quality camcorders or cameras for making youtube videos?

Angie

i make youtube videos but my camera quality isn't so good does anyone know of a hd camera or camcorder under 200 dollars that will still look good on youtube ?

Answer
Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

iMovie '11 not recognizing Canon HDV Vixia HV40 camcorder.?

tendum1

I want to import my video from my Canon Vixia HV40 camcorder, but when I plug it in via Firewire 400, iMovie nor my MacBook Pro recognizes it. Am I doing something wrong?

Answer
We cannot see what you are connecting.

MacBook Pro firewire is generally firewire 800. It is a 9-pin connector.

The DV port on the camcorder is an "i.LINK" port that is firewire 400 compliant.

Connect the camcorder's DV port to the Mac's firewire port with a firewire cable.

The camcorder needs to be in "Play" mode.

You did not tell us what version OSX you are running on the MacBook Pro. You may need to go into System Preferences: Network to make the firewire port active.

It is possible the firewire cable is bad. Replace the cable.

It is possible the DV port on the camcorder shorted out if the firewire cable was inserted to the camcorder's DV port when the camcorder was On. Have the camcorder repaired or use another HDV camcorder to transfer the video to the Mac.

What happens when a camcorder requires 7.9volts and you plug in a 7.5 volt adapter?

iscwest

Its a Panasonic PV-GS31 camcorder.

Answer
You need to know what AMPERAGE - milliamps the Camcorder is rated for at the 7.9 listed voltage. Adapters almost NEVER give the voltage that the label indicates - if you have a digital multimeter and look at the voltage, you will usually find that 7.9 volts actually reads 14 or 16 volts with no "load" ( not plugged in ) as the camcorder uses power the
voltage will drop, and the Amperage will increase - different
functions on the camcorder such as rewind, zoom, playback etc. will use different motors and chips, and therefore use different amounts of power. Some adapters use cheap
single diode converters from AC ( Alternating current input of 120 volts, which goes from zero to 167 vots in one direction, back to zero, then to 167 volts in the other direction, and back to Zero ) If there is little or no CAPACITOR value in MicroFarads, then the output is a choppy
jagged pulse. The Output rating of 7.9 volts at xxx milliamps ( one thousand milliamps is one amp ) is an AVERAGE only - at one specific amperage listed !
NOTE - you also need to know the center tip and outer
adapter plug poarity ( Positive and negative ) of the
replacement 7.5 volt adapter ! ! ! make certain that the
positive and negative match the required 7.9 volt inputs.
If you use a 3 AMP ( 3000 milliamp ) 7.5 volt adapter,
it may work much better than a 1100 milliamp 7.9 volt
adapter, since when the Camcorder uses a lot of power, the
7.9 volt may drop to 7.3 volts under heavy load, but the
7.5 volt ( "RATED" ) adapter may actually put out
9 raw volts, and NEVER drop below 7.5 volts with the
3000 milliamp ( "power output " ) it is capable of supplying. Unless I find a computer grade switch mode power supply rated a 5.0 volts, xxx amps, I rarely find any
adapter that actually puts out the VOLTAGE that is listed
on the label. Ten different adapters, by ten different
companies, all with the same output label ( 7.5 volts at
1000 milliamps ), will actually give 10 different voltages
at any given load ( Current draw in milliamps ).
Just make certain that the polarity ( Positive and negative ) is correct, and try the 7.5 - if the adapter gets too hot in a few minutes of use, then it is too small in its Amperage output, and you could burn it out. If it has an equal, or higher amperage than the original 7.9 adapter, and it remains cool running, and the camcorder works perfectly, then you are probably ok.
Summary - check the polarity and the amperage required. If your 7.5 volt adapter is labelled 200 or 450 milliamps then you are probably in trouble - the adapter is for a tiny device that uses little power. If the camcorder label states
1.6 amps ( at 7.9, or " 8 " volts ) then you are better off to try to find an adapter with similar or HIGHER amperage output, at, or near 7.5 to 8 volts, for example 2 amps ( 2000 milliamps ). If you had 2 electrical meters, one set to amperage, the other set to votlage, you could see the actual voltage of any adapter drop from, for example, 12 vots raw output, with no load, to 7.9 volts under heavy camcorder load when plugged in.
NOTE 120 Vots is not 120 volts of anything - it is an AVERAGE of the curve going up and down from zero to about 167 vots at the peak of each "hill" in the center. The wave form of 120 volts looks like a bunch of hills, alternating
with identical valleys, so the average "real" power is
about 120. If you look at an oscilloscope you see a sine wave, which looks like the side view of ripples in water.
If you had to say how high the water level was, and there were waves comming in on the beach, you take the average between the tops of the waves and the bottoms, and use that as an average. Similar to "120" volts, or 7.9 volts Direct current ( Direct Current is exactly the same a a battrey output - just a single voltage with no waves - just a straight line, like a water level on a day with no wind - flat ) Most adapters put out some form of ripple or waves caused by the 120 volt input's huge waves.
So, 7.5 and 7.9 "could" be almost identical, depending on
how well the adapters were made, and what electronics were used inside the adapters to change 120 volts down to " 7.9 ".
FINALLY, if I haven't bored you to death already, the CAMCORDER itself usually has a power regulation circuit
built into it as well ... This means that the Camcorder takes in the raw "7.9 volts" and has circuits to change the power to charge the camcorder's batteries ( high current, probably about 6 volts ), to run the motors ( probably
various tiny motors running 6 volts, 5 volts, 3 volts etc
depending on how powerful they need to be ), to run the memory and controller chips, (5.00 volts, 3.3 volts, 1.5 volts, etc. ) and to supply the mini liquid TV viewer screen's backlight... SO... This means that even a 9 volt
power supply with a correct polarity, and similar Amperage rating may work just fine, IFF the power converter circuits in the Camcorder itself can handle dropping a bit of excess voltage from the 9.0 volts ( rated, but putting out 12 vots raw power easily under no load ) to 8.0 ( or 7.9 ) volts rated by the Camcorder manufacturer. Again Amperage rating is a huge factor to consider...

Hope this helps

help with camcorder files?

Nope

whenever i record it records the files in a .MTS extension. and its annoying to convert. Does it do this because its HD? its not like a $3000 camcorder it was like $300. Is there any way i can fix this?

Answer
Welcome to the "wonderful" world of file-based cameras.

The MTS/MPEG-2 Transport Stream format is common in HD camcorders. The slow part about tape-based cameras is that you have to wait through the entire video in real time to capture it. The slow part about file-based cameras is the converting.

Some editing programs can work with the format natively without any conversion - Adobe Premiere Pro is one, if I recall correctly. Others do a very quick re-wrap conversion of the file, like Avid Media Composer. Some require you to use a different program to convert it, and I think that's the case with Final Cut Pro - but you can get around this step by using the "Log and Transfer" function.

One option you have is to use a program that can re-wrap the video into a different container without changing the format - on the Mac, ClipWrap can do this. Takes a few seconds to re-wrap the clip into a MOV file container. MPEG Streamclip is a great free program that can accomplish a wide variety of conversions.

In short, the camera will keep recording MTS files, and you can't do anything about that, but you can set up your workflow to make the process as streamlined as possible.

Any live video cameras?

Q. Are there any live video cameras that stream to wireless devices or laptops?

Answer
Sure.

The pros use them at major sport events. Titan makes good wireless transceiver systems. There are a few others.

Wireless network based security cameras or web-cams don't count because they still need power (using a wire).

Then there are the smartphones that include video conferencing... Or small wireless video systems like the ones used by radio controlled quadracopters.

It depends on your budget, the amount of time the video needs to be streaming and the video quality required...

Good video camera for live music?

Q. I'm filming a documentary for a band which will include a live concert and one on one interviews.

What would be my best option camera wise and do i need a mic for the interviews?
And how much would we be looking at?

Nikon D5100, D7000, or a Cannon?

x0pinklemo

Hello! I'm looking into purchasing my first DSLR! I'm really excited, but I'm also wary because this is a HUGE investment. Here's some background information: I would consider myself to be an amateur when it comes to the 'pro' shots, but I'm familiar with the workings of a camera. I'm comfortable operating an SLR camera, and I've had a lot of experience with Nikon D50's, 60's, and 70's (I want to say - not completely positive) since I've taken both film and digital photography classes. I've had some experience with sports photography and I LOVE it (so I would look into purchasing a lens to aid with that), but my real passion is nature photography. I'm traveling to Maui and Australia/New Zealand in a year, which is my real motivation for getting a camera and learning how to operate it right now. I also want to be able to snap nice candids of my family/friends, but I'm not looking to do anything like portraits or special event photography (unless I want to for fun).

I've never shot with a Cannon before, but I've always been happy with Nikon and all of their works. My questions are:
How much more advanced are the 5100 and 7000 when compared to the D60-90 series?
Which brand is the best for DSLR?
And mainly, what are the differences between the 5100 and the 7000? Will purchasing the 5100 make me kick myself in the foot for not hashing out a few hundred more dollars and investing in the 7000?

Brief Summary:
D5000 or 7000
I want a camera that:
takes GREAT nature photos
great shutterspeed options
has potential to dabble in some videos (all for the fun of it)
this camera is for personal use only, but I want clean, crisp, and stunning shots.

Thanks for your time! It's appreciated!

Answer
these days all cameras will do video full HD and they will all take great crisp shots. You only have to choose. Nikon, Pentax, Canon, Sony, and Olympus make good DSLR's and they all have cameras in various price ranges. You can check out the pentax k30 which just came out and its weathered sealed and gives you the option of using lithium batteries or AA battereies.

Answer
Can you afford the thousands of dollars for the 5D Mk II?

Get it, then, if you can.

But for your first DSLR, it would be a waste. Here's something: it's a PROFESSIONAL camera! While you might be able to learn all the features, that's still a common misconception. It's ALWAYS better to refer to a entry level when starting out and then progressing - even if you have the money.

I suggest getting an entry level DSLR. Here are my suggestions:

- Canon EOS 450D/Rebel XSi
- Nikon D40X/D60 (do not consider the D40, there's not much point)
- Maybe the D90 if you can afford, although it's an advanced amateur camera, more suited for those in between semi-pro/enthusiast and entry level

Sony, Olympus and Pentax have their pros, but I really suggest a Nikon or Canon to invest in, and to start off at least.

D90 has video. Not great, but it's HD.

It seems you have a lot of money... your range stretches a fair bit! The D40X is around $400 and the 5D Mk II is around $5000. So, I wouldn't get the D40X. I'd get the D60/D90. More features, and after all, you can afford it.

Still, no auto focus or live view means you'll get used to doing it the hard way. The original way. Heck, it might help you get better at photography. But almost all Nikkor lenses suitable for D40X/D60 are AF-S (auto focus).

---
EDIT:
As I said, no live view or auto focus means you'll learn to do it the harder way and thus get better.

But look, you can still use manual focus.

The D60 can comes with AF lenses, so it's fine, anyway.

If you can afford it, the D90 is the best out of what I've recommended. It just has the best quality in terms of image quality.

Otherwise, the 450D.

Remember, I wouldn't exactly trust new things, like HD mode. Wait until it develops... but as you said, you already have a camcorder, so it doesn't matter.

Live View has been rather impressively improved on the D60/90 and 450D/Rebel XSi. But of course, nothing beats the viewfinder. Use it most. LiveView in awkward situations or hard to see, such as macro.

All I've mentioned, but esp. the D90 and 450D have excellent low levels of noise at higher ISO levels.

Just buy into a brand and once there, don't turn back. For many, it can cost over tens of thousands to change brand. Of course, it depends when, exactly, but I'd advise sticking with a particular brand once you buy it.
---
Misinformation on the misinformation

The 5D is in fact $5000. Don't always assume... it IS $5000 here in Australia.

Canon may not consider it a professional camera; there, I am wrong, if that is the case. I don't own the 5D.

Can u suggest a simple, "plain vanilla" camera?

Cam

Okay, I'm probably setting myself up for merciless ridicule, but here's my situation:

I own a Canon EOS Rebel XT. It has been a trusty workhorse for the past decade. I recently purchased a Canon 7D which takes great photos and video and has a multitude of features.

And that's kinda my problem: I would like a simpler, high end camera.

First of all, I am a simple person (but not a simpleton, thank u) 80% of my subjects are people generally shot MCU, 10% are action sports and 10% are things. I'm a pilot and I adore planes.

I think I took the 18 -125 zoom lens off the Rebel to mount a telephoto maybe a total of three times in a decade.

The 7D came with a 18 -135 zoom which will probably stay on the camera forever.

So I have a complex, full featured DSLR and I don't need another. I shoot mostly people and the 18 - 135 lens is fine for catching them. Occasionally I'll fill w/flash.

I'd like a camera that allows me to react lightening fast to the antics of that elusive species, humans. It doesn't have to be Canon.

What would u suggest in the way of a high quality, SIMPLE camera for a simple man w/simple (photographic) needs?

I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Simple these days means setting the camera to an intelligent auto mode and letting it do its stuff.
I guess you don't like an electronic viewfinder?
Therefore look to Fuji's new rangefinder style compacts
or a 2012 Canon G1-X

What kind of digital camera should I get?

Anonymous.

I have a 2009 panosonic lumix (digital not HD - forget type though), but it's kind of broken because the lens won't open fully. I think it's time to get a new camera since I haven't gotten one since early 2010. I plan to be a photographer in the future (as a side job). I am also going to work at a camp and plan to take pictures there. I don't feel like bringing my big EOS digital 2008 cannon. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Price range no more than $250. I would prefer less than $200, but if it would really suite me, then I'd go for it.
2. I'm not quite sure what I like. I know there's no such thing as a total all around digital point and shoot because I've been doing some research. I'd probably be doing photo shoots, but I also want one that would take like pictures of people doing sports since I'm in the horse world and like to take pictures of people horse riding and stuff. I guess I'd mainly focus on pets and kids and stuff.
3. I know optical zoom. I have photoshop CS5, so I don't need the pixels taken up like that.
4. I don't need a video recording. Would be nice, but eh I'd rather save my money and just use my phone or something.
5. I have a 2010 mac book pro laptop, so I'd like the card to be able to read/format on that.
6. If I print out images, it doesn't need to be more than 8X10 photo paper printed pictures. I mean I'd use my bigger camera for larger photos, so yeah. I'll probably just post the pictures online/email them if anything so won't need them really printed big.
7. I'd like to have a camera that has a decent battery life. At camp, the power went out for 8 days last year. I was able to take pictures the whole time and took over 300 pictures and still had battery life. I wouldn't mind having a long battery life like that camera.
8. My hand does shake a tad sometimes, so I'd prefer a not SOOO sensitive camera.
9. I'd like a camera that has the ability for manual settings and as well as auto or/and preset settings.
10. I'd prefer like Cannon, Nikon, Panasonic (nicer brands rather than the not so trustworthy brands because I know how to use those types of cameras).

Which camera(s) do you think would best suite me?

Answer
http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2012/09/cannon-is-weapon.html

1. Price is right smack in your budget.
2. Zoom is enough on this camera for taking horses and their riders. This is also good for shots of pets, kids and stuff which are near you or relatively out of reach. Just remember to shoot under lots of light. Indoors, use flash.
3. Optical zoom is not extravagant but not wanting either. Don't worry. What it lacks in zoom, it makes up with optical quality.
4. This has HD video which you can completely ignore until you find a lustful desire for it later.
5. As a standard feature, all cameras follow the FAT filesystem. With memory cards 4GB and larger, FAT32 is imposed. Mac computers can recognize FAT/FAT32 without problems. You can even format the memory card to FAT/FAT32 using your Mac (no matter how many pro photographers advice you not to). It will work.
6. This is a 16MP camera. You can print to 11x16" as long as exposure quality is gloriously good enough.
7. Four AA batteries. The best would be Energizer Lithium but you can also get rechargeable Ni-MH. Just make sure they're at least 2100 mAh for very long lasting shooting. In the event you run out, just slide over to the nearest store for some Alkaline AA's. That's the beauty of it.
8. Oh, this camera's sensitive. Apart from excellent optical glass quality, it has a triple-shake-reduction technology so don't worry about shaky hands. You're covered on that one.
9. Manual exposure? Manual focus? No problem. It's not as intuitive as a dSLR. This is after all just a bridge but, if you want manual, this has manual.
10. Since you can't spell Canon correctly, I'll take it you don't know that this brand is older than them and just a tad younger than Nikon. There was a time in fact when all cameras sold by all other brands (nice and not so trustworthy) were lesser than that sold by this brand alone. So there.

your camcorder comes with a usb cable and a cdrom which includes the drivers (Picture Package Software v1.0). It should also come with a computer applications guide which explains in detail what I'm saying here right now. once you find the cdrom and the cable..

1. install the software first before connecting the camcorder to the computer.
2. connect 1 end of the cable to your computer's usb port.. the other end to your camcorder (it's at the side where you have the handstrap. you have to lift the cover)
3. turn on the camcorder
4. set usb stream by going to P-menu > standard set > USB-PLY/EDT (if you want to transfer tapes) or USB-CAMERA (if you want real time transfer.. like for webcams). after setting that, get out of the menu
5. wait for the computer to recognize the camera and it's ready to transfer

after this, you can use the picture package software to capture your videos. personally, i don't use it because the features are so limited. you'd be better off using windows movie maker. it comes free with windows xp.

you didn't mention if you're using a mac... if you are, usb will not work. you need to buy a firewire cable for the camcorder and then use imovie to capture.

hope that helps.

I'm Looking for a Camcorder Under $100!!!!?

Q. I'm looking for a decent camcorder preferebly under $100.I would go up a little higher, but not to much. It would be my first one, and I'm not to technical and I need all the help I can get. I don't understand any of the reviews I'm reading at all! I have a 7 month old and I want to start recording all his "firsts". I don't need anything amazing. Just something good that really works. All you techies out there-can you help?

Answer
if you still want it new, try going to a clearing house like Big Lots, sometimes you can still get a good deal for electronics, like a camcorder. If you look on-line (just type clearing house into your search engine) you can probably find a good deal on something still brand new, just a couple years old.

I didn't need anything really fancy either, and I picked up a good one at a Big Lots, on the otherside of town. They just got a shipment of electronics which also included a bunch of discontinued older models of camcorders. I got a panasonic for only 75 bucks, still brand new in the original packaging. Sure it records in regular VHS, no problem my father has a DVD/VHS recorder deck, to convert all my VHS tapes. I've had the camera for four years and it still works fine.

The good thing about having an older model is that most Tech Fanatics don't want it just coz its old, most theives won't want to steal it coz at a pawn shop its practically worthless compared to all the High Tech Digital Recording Cams on the market that is in demand.

Another, idea is to just visit a pawn shop, I'm sure they have a few older VHS camcorders in used, but working conditon. Maybe you can still work out a deal with the shop owner, again coz most folks don't want an Old Camera, they want the hottest newest trendiest gadget that is all the rage for tech wannabees.

Good Luck sweetie!!!

cheers !!

Answer
Visit the sony website to download the software and driver.

Depending on the features available in your camcorder model, here are a few things that you can do to achieve your objective:
1 -- If you have firewire port in your camcorder, get a firewire card installed in your PC and then using the s/w provided with the camcorder, transfer the video onto the pc.
2 -- If your camcorder supports USB streaming, then you can you the USB port on your PC to get the video transfered onto your PC.
3 -- If your PC has a TV tuner card, give the o/p of your camcorder to this tuner card and then get the video transfered onto your PC

Camcorders???

Q. I have wanted to buy a new camcorder for a while now, but just recently started to actually shop around for one. I have been thinking about the sony handycam dcr sr42, but the reviews i read about it are not very promising. I do not know very much about cameras in general, so I was hoping someone could suggest a good camcorder that they have used before and really liked. I'll probably only use mine for stuff like home movies (vacations, recitals, etc.). I would like it to be a good size (not very large, easy to carry around) and take high quality footage that ca nbe easily transferred to a PC to be edited. I would also like to know which you think is more conveniant and easy to work with: tape, dvd, or hard drive based?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Answer
Hello! Nice to share my hobby with you.

I have evolve from using camera starting from Hi-8, Digital 8, MiniDV, DVD and now Hard Disc base and of more than 8 years using various model and brand.

SONY cameras and CANON are most my preferred brand. Most cameras have pro and cons. But I assume that you are just a hobbyist and not taking picture professionally. You will learn to adapt and familiarized and learn to master the camcorder.

Go for 3 CCD cameras or the CMOS camera. Donât even consider single CCD.

Go for High Definition Camcorder.

As for media, consider seriously Hard Disc Base camera. I have unpleasant experience using Tape and DVD. DVD base camera has a short recording time (about 20 Minutes per DVD). Hard Disc will have longer recording time and generally the hard disc camcorder is smaller in size.

As for Ease of editing, hard disc base Camcorder is the easiest. DVD second. Tape a bit of a hassle.

Only problem travelling with Hard Disc base Camcorder is that you need to have access to a PC on your journey as you need to download and save the clips captured on your camcorder hard disc to a PC or external hard storage before your hard disc space ran out.

As for my suggestion, get these accessories too. They are essential to you.
1. Additional Spare batteries
2. Desktop charger.
3. Good Carrying bag
4. Good Tripod
5. Lighting Accessories

Best Regards.

Pro camcorder?

madman

I wanna buy a gd qualty camcorder that will allow me to make short films. some one recomded the hvx200 but its expensive. what else can i find that is not that expensive and profesional???

Answer
Generally speaking, you get what you pay for, so in most cases, you won't get something as good as the HVX200 for a lower price. Here are some pro HD camcorders that are a bit cheaper:
1) JVC GY-HD110U $4,000
2) Canon XH-A1 $3,300
_________________
The HD110U is one of my favorite cameras, though it does NOT shoot in 1080 HD, but instead, it only shoots in the lower resolution 720 HD. Most people would ask: why would I buy a pro camera that can't shoot in true 1080 HD? I will explain my reasoning later, but first I will discuss the HD110U's upside. Well, first of all, it offers a switchable 24p mode, which is excellent for short films and independant films (because it makes your digital video look more like film). The HD110U is the cheapest pro HD camera with 24p. My favorite feature in the HD110U is its ability to switch frame rates between the standard 30fps to 24fps (in 24p) or 60fps (for fast action shots). What is most amazing is that the HD110 allows a Progressive mode when shooting in 60fps, while most camcorders only shoot in either 30fps progressive(30p) which blurs more, or 60fps interlaced (60i), which doesn't look as good as progressive. In conclusion, although the HD110 can't shoot in true 1080 HD, it CAN shoot in 720 HD at 60p, which, in my opinion looks much better than 1080 HD in 30p or 60i. 720 HD also takes up less memory than 1080.

The Canon XH-A1 is a great camera too, but not the best choice for a filmmaker headed in the short film/ indie film direction....it's better suited for news broadcasters or wedding videographers. This is because it only has a 1080 HD mode that records in either 30p/i or 60i. Progressive is desired among filmmakers but at 30fps, it blurs too much. Secondly, the XH-A1 does NOT have a 24p mode, which is a must for indie filmmakers (24p makes your video look like film). Instead, it has what Canon calls a 24f mode, and I don't know how it compares to 24p.

_______________________________
Now, that's if you want HD. If you really don't care, you can get a really good deal on standard def. pro camcorders:
1) Panasonic AG-DVX110B $2,500
2) Canon XL2 $3,000
3) Sony DSR-PD170 $2,500
4) Canon GL2 $2,000

I'm a huge fan of the DVX100B. It's very similar to the HVX200, without HD. Before HD, it was a popular camera among indie filmmakers for being the first camera with 24p for a consumer price. Soon after, the XL2 came along, also offering 24p. The XL2 also offers interchangeable lenses, which is a really nice feature, but not too necessary if you don't plan on buying additional, thousand-dollar lenses. The Sony PD170 is also an excellent camera that is a true low-light wonder, but it doesn't have 24p, so it's not the best choice for filmmakers. The GL2 is also a decent camera, but it doesn't have pro audio connections, as it lacks XLR inputs. It also does not have 24p.
______________________________________
If you want pro quality picture in a Consumer camera, here are some decent consumer cameras that are both under $1,000:
1) Canon HV20 (or the HV30)
2) Sony HDR-HC3 (or the HC9)

These are great HD camcorders, but lack some pro features such as decent manual controls, XLR inputs, or 3 image sensors; CCDs or CMOS (consumer cameras have 1 chip)

I hope that helps, and I apologize for my rambling. Well, good luck and have fun!

What Would be a Good Camcorder for me at Walmart or any Other Place?

Bronson

My ideal camcorder would have great motion processing and good image stabilization. I plan on recording breakdancing, freerunning, tricking, and skateboarding so I would need those to be a necessity in the camcorder.
HD and good resolution would also be good.
Price I would like is to be around 200$ or lower. Not sure if this is actually feasible at a normal consumer market, but if it there's a camera even similar I would like to know please.

Answer
Getting a HD camcorder is taking a step backward in Video Quality. HD camcorders Interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly, the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

What is a good camera?

amandacath

I am sick of getting these digital cameras that eat batteries and take fuzzy pictures and then just stop working. My third one just won't turn on any more. Once I take it back, I want to find a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for around the $100 mark but I'll appreciate any ideas you have.

Answer
Canon PowerShot A2500 is an excellent camera. This camcorder comes with 2.7-inch TFT color LCD . It also has 16megapixel and ½.3 inch ccd sensor. It can also hold up to 64gb sd card. This camera shoots awesome videos with a 720p HD and have been one of the top recommended in 2013 so far. It would be perfect for your youtube videos. It is sold at amazon for $85 which i think is a decent price for such quality. I have provided links below for you.

Camcorder feature name?

Andr

The feature is being able to see an overlay from a previous shot, so as to compare the previous still image (excerpt from a previously shot scene) to what's currently being seen by the camcorder. I need to compare these two right there at the set, right there on the camcorder, so I won't have to plug it into an editing program to do the comparison.

What is this feature called exactly?

Answer
I have been unable to find such a feature in a camcorder. Various google searches have turned up many references to this in editing software, but this is exactly what you don't want. I did find one reference to Samsung working on this in a still camera, here:

http://petapixel.com/2013/05/24/samsung-working-on-overlay-feature-to-help-strangers-snap-better-shots-of-you/

There are also references to Image Overlay in other cameras (like the Nikon D5100 in its Creative Effects menu - see here at the bottom of the page):

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d5100/features02.htm

There are other references like in the Panasonic HX-WA2A and HX-WA3A, but it wasn't clear if it meant what you want.
So, to answer your question it looks like the name is simply Image Overlay, but it is not a feature widely available. My own half hour searching really didn't turn anything up (which is probably why there are no other answers given here). Good luck!
