Hi, I'm looking for a camcorders that can record the best quality video with the best quality audio. Of course, people still use cameras with microphones to do this, but I'm wondering if there's a cutting edge camcorder that could record the video with high quality audio that people can actually hear clearly and perfectly with the need of connecting to a microphone. I don't mind high resolution, either, because I want people to see the video in crystal clarity. It's still in planning, but the show is called Online Crowdfunding News Platform, where I spread the news of crowdfunding campaigns throughout YouTube and Apple podcasts. (Podcasts, because I need to fund my show). I would really appreciate it if you give me the direct brand and model number so I can see the camcorder for myself. When you read this, please reply right away. Thanks!

If you depend on the camcorder's internal mics, then you need to use the mics properly- that means when using a "normal" speaking level, the mic needs to be within about 3 feet of your mouth. The issue is that when you do this, the framing of the video image may not be what you want. That's one reason why an external mic is preferred because you can "decouple" the mic position from the camcorder position.

When an external mic is used, it is easier to record directly into the camcorder - which means the camcorder needs a mic jack. There is no single best mic - sometimes a mono shotgun (directional) mic is best; sometimes a clip-on "lavalier" is best; sometimes a handheld dynamic mic is preferred. Assuming you watch network news, you will see all three (and maybe others) used. For *best* audio, in addition to the mic connection, the camcorder should have manual audio gain control.

Canon HF R400 (does not have the manual audio gain control, the HF M500 is preferred). Mics: Audi Technica ATR6550 shotgun; Audio Technica PRO88-CM wireless lav; handheld dynamic mic - since we're already at Audio Technica, then the ATR1200 or ATR1100 should be fine. This is nowhere near pro-grade gear.

You *MUST* add light. This may be as simple as a bunch of 60 watt or 100 watt bulbs or a couple of video lights to as complex as a bunch of PAR56 cans on a dimmer system (again, watch broadcast news). This is how you will get "crystal clear" video.

You may also want: Tripod or other steadying system. DO NOT capture handheld. Computer upgrade to handle the AVCHD-compressed video (which is all you get from consumer grade camcorders); a decent video editor (we don't know what computer you are using - please not MovieMaker - more like Sony Vegas... for Macs, iMovie or Final Cut Pro X).

There is no device that can capture "perfect audio" if the mics are not used properly. That's kind of like expecting a surfboard to act perfectly - as a door...

As indicated earlier, the above is *consumer grade*. There's lots of reasons why better video quality comes from more expensive equipment. There's lots of reasons why the professionals do not use this consumer grade gear. If you *truly* want "crystal clear perfect video and audio", then you need to use what is commonly used to get those results.

If you are expecting consumer grade gear to provide professional grade results, your expectations are not set properly.

Minimum pro-grade gear:
Sony NEX-EA50UH
Sennheiser shotgun mic
Sennheiser G3 E100 wireless lav portable system
Beyerdynamic handheld dynamic mic
Davis & Sanford pro-grade tripod
Cases, additional high capacity battery from Sony
Lite panels video LED lighting

There's more... but this is a start - and we did not touch your computer for upgrades (hardware and video editing application). And the pro-grade list is MINIMUM. There is lots better (and more expensive equipment) available that real field and other news groups currently use.

What camcorder would be good for beginners and short films?

I'm looking for a camcorder that would be a good starter kind of thing. I want to be a director when i grow up, so I just want a good camcorder to practice with. I need a camcorder that has good altitude and depth. I just want something that would look legit, not some crappy version that makes the video look like it was filmed in the 80's. Please help. The highest I can go with the price is $300. Thanks guys.

I have a Flip mini HD. The video quality is great, and the sound is above average I'd say.

This video I posted in the web source section was made with my Flip camcorder.

It was a school project. There were no extra mics or anything so everything you see and hear are from the camera.
I recommend the Flip, but I would only get the HD version. They might be cheaper than what you are looking for though. An 8gb Mini HD will only run you about $140
