Answer
This Kodak camera as well as the Polaroid camera [from another earlier question you submitted] have poor video capability and you may be looking into $200 plus purchases.

Here's a "best buy" camera recommendation with superior video and uses rechargeable AA batteries which last a "long time."

Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. Takes "continuous" 2 frames per second "action/sports" images;
4. Has macro feature for close-ups of small objects focused under 6 inches;
5. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
6. It's very small and light;
7. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards - a 2 gig card sells for $19 at samys.com;
8. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
9. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
10. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
11. And the price is a mere $119 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.]

Review(s) can be found at www.amazon.com [Query: "Nikon Coolpix L10" along with pictures provided by satisfied purchasers.]

Good luck!

What's a good camera for a 12 year old?

The Crazy

Okay well it's christmastime and I'd really like a digital camera or so. I'm a girl in love with gadgets and electronics, but I don't need anything really flashy and it doesn't have to be PINK. My brother's getting it for me, and I don't want to burn his pockets. It doesn't have to be expensive, I'm only 12 you know. I WOULD like the pics to come out a little nicely, outdoor or indoor. I had the Oregon Scientific DS6618 and it was okay. Slim and slender, it was small and portable. Anyone have any ideas on which camera to buy?

Answer
I just bought a Kodak Easyshare 7.1 MP camera at Radioshack, but they also sell them at Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Office Max and Office Depot. The 6.1 MP is cheaper, so that would probably be best. I love my camera, it has so many awesome features, and it is extremely easy to use (so easy, you don't even need the manual they include). I paid $130 for mine, which is an excellent price for something of this quality, and the best part is it comes with a charger! No matter what camera you buy, make sure it runs on a RECHARGEABLE batter, because buying disposables is gonna cost you more in the long run. I just can't get over how awesome this camera is! It's really tiny, and you can also record video (but they come out in quicktime format, however, you can easily convert it). The pics come out crystal clear, and 7 megapixels means HUGE PICS! There are black/white & sepia filters, and also several different modes for taking pictures. I used the sport mode while I was riding on the train, and the pictures still came out absolutely perfect! I had a hard time finding it in the store, everywhere I called was nearly sold out! I understand why though, this is an awesome camera~!

Beginner HD Camcorder?

Future

I want to purchase a camcorder that records in HD. On Youtube 1080p if possible. (1920x1080 Fulll HD Video). I've looked at models such as Sony HDR-CX190 and Sony HDR-CX110. Those run to $250-500 and thats a bit out of my price range. Anything I can get that I can handle from a firm 150$-200$? I just want a camcorder that records in full HD quality, has a fairly good optical zoom (25x), and HDMI output. Please help!

Answer
Hi Richard:

You need to get more realistic with your budget or else lower your expectations of what you plan on getting as far as your "feature list". The first to go away will be the 25x optical zoom for most cameras in your price range. (Unless you plan on buying "used" gear.)

TV stations spend THOUSANDS of dollars to upgrade their Standard Def TV cameras, lenses, and recorders to handle "HD". And average consumers like you expect "NFL Today" quality on your home TV or YouTube with something under-$200 from WalMart or BestBuy.

It ain't gonna happen, young sport.

You'll find decent optics (glass not plastic lenses), an HDMI output connector, full-HD and image stabilization, but only 4x digital zoom (no true-optical zoom) with most of the Kodak PlaySport and PlayTouch model camcorders, all of which are under-$200 (and some of the $179 models can be found for $79 on sale). But Kodak has stopped making all of its digital cameras and camcorders, so supplies of the PlaySport/Touch series are becoming scarce.

To find decent optical zoom on an under-$200 HD camcorder (without taking your chances on a used "eBay bargain") you'll have to compromise elsewhere in your list: the new Samsung F80SN camcorder has a whopping 52x Schneider zoom lens (and "fast" at F1.8), but only records in 720HD, but on YouTube you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in resolution. It also has HDMI output, and utilizes 1080p up-scaling when displaying photos or playing your 720p video, so you'l get great viewing quality for the money.

The only other cheap line I'd recommend is the Sanyo Xacti pistol grip style camcorders or the palm-sized Sanyo camcorders, which have 10x or more optical zoom, HDMI, and full-HD recording. Panasonic just recently acquired Sanyo, and I haven't kept up with what models are still "Sanyo" branded and which ones now appear with the Panasonic name instead. The Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA100 was one of the better pistol grip models, and you might still find it available online. This Sanyo, like most of the Kodaks, is waterproof in case you drop it in the pool (or sink/toilet) or take it to the beach.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Answer
If you want bling, get a Hasselblad. (but it's good bling)

If you're shopping Walmart and Target, then you must not be looking at DSLR's or other serious cameras. They have a couple, but no lense support and very little helpful knowledge from the majority of the staff there.

There's not one BEST brand, as cameras take so many forms and cover such a wide range.

Do you want a pocketsize camera in pink?
Do you want a camera with 15x zoom?
Are you looking at image stabilization?
Is there a camera bag with classic SLR lenses in your house?
Are you planning to take sports or action shots?
Do you want a camera that's extra simple to operate?
Are you going to experiment with manual settings?
Is the ability to take video clips important?
Will being waterproof and shockproof make a difference?

These are all serious questions and would give you different camera brands as answers. The best brand camera is the one YOU are most comfortable holding in your hands to take the kinds of pictures you want.

Here's one link with some 'best cameras' reviews.

Ok I have had the same digital camera for 5 years now it is only 5mp and just plain sucks for pictures. I have 2 small kids, 2 and 4, so they are very busy and i want a camera that can take pictures very fast so i can keep up with them. i think people refer to it as taking sport shots?? i also know i want high mega pixels and a high optical zoom, at least 10 mp and 8 optical zoom.....there are a ton of cameras out there that have my qualifications of the mp and optical zm but i have no idea if they will do the "sport shots" or not....please give me suggestions! Thanks!
just another note also, i can only afford about 200 to 250 bucks, i know i know i am asking a lot...lol

Answer

Hi guys,
I'm really bad at knowing recent cameras.

I am looking for a camera with good video and picture quality, but I want it to have the option for WIDESCREEN!
I love face detector and big megapixel with strong zoom.

I play sport which requires that camera to be as anti-blur as possible.

I don't want it to fancy, not that big black camera.

any brand works for me, waterproof isn't necessary.

price range 100-200$

I can reach Walmart, Best-Buy, and Fries.

thanks for your opinion and suggestion!
Much appreciated!

Answer
First, my opinion and that of many others, I can't tell you the number of write ups we see here almost every day about faulty Kodak cameras. Not a good choice at all.

Your best bet will be either Canon or Nikon.

Anti blur - you obviously don't know much about photography or you wouldn't ask this question.

Blur happens in low light when the shutter is too slow. It doesn't matter what kind of camera you have, in this case blur will happen.

You're actually asking for faster aperture and a faster shutter. The control of these comes on high end Point and Shoot and SLR cameras, not the cheap pocket toys.

If you want quality it will be expensive.
