Answer
Personal opinion only, I wouldn't buy anything made by Kodak accept perhaps their film.

Canon, Nikon, Olympus have all been making cameras for more years than I care to count. Kodak just got into the camera business a few years trying to sell their digital line. Not worth the $$.

Good Luck

Whats The Best Pocket Sized/Point & Shoot Camcorder?

Hoogin

I'm looking on Amazon for an HD point & shoot pocket sized camcorder for like $100. I've looked at pretty much everything and have pretty much come to a struggle between the Kodak Zi8 and the Kodak PlaySport(ZX3). The Zi8 is great except for its default mic sucks & I'm NOT looking to buy an external one, the PlaySport(ZX3) has good Video and Audio plus Waterproof; don't really care for it but accidentally dropping it into a puddle or any type of water and it being OK is a relief. I'm wanting to buy a camcorder for YouTube and random funny stuff that happens on a daily basis and can never capture them, also I have a family reunion coming up and I'm going to want to hear everyone's voices on the video's. I'm only looking to pay between $100-$120 I know that wont get me something AMAZING but I just want to get the best for what I can afford. I'm open to suggestion on other Camcorders that aren't these. Please, if you will, put in a whole lot of facts about the camcorder you suggest or reasoning between the two.

Those who answer without reading will be reported, thank you.

Answer
Get either of those HD camcorders. if you are that clumsy, and you think you are going to drop an expensive piece of electronics in a puddle, don't bother buying anything. What if you do get the playsport, drop it and puddle and it breaks because there is a rock in the puddle you did not see, How water proof will that be?

And by the way, when you get either of those cameras and start shooting video, tell everyone in front of the camera to be very still, as even a lifted arm will cause screen ghosts and artifacts in the finished product.. Consumer level HD camcorder are terrible at shooting sports.

You can get a Canon ZR 960, a MiniDV tape camcorder that has a mic jack, for $250

Not wanting a mic jack? Beware, all consume level camcorder microphones work good at capturing audio to about the 5 foot mark in front of the camera. Beyond that distance, your audio starts to degrade rapidly. Shooting in a noisy environment, at 12 to 15 feet, you will get non of the audio from your talent and only the ambient noise in the area. Being able to have the talent use an external mic is a big help in this instance.

You can rent Mics and accessories at your local music store, the folks who sell Drum Kits and Guitars and such are audio experts. Talk to them and make friends with them. They can help you.
