I need to know how to do the following.
1.Plug in my camcorder (Sony 72x digital zoom video Hi-8 XR steady shot Handycam Vision) To my dell computer
2. Save it to my computer and edit it on Windows Movie maker
If anyone can tell me how to do the following it would really be appreaciated. Thanks!

Hi8 is analog. There is no USB or firewire connection. Use the AV cable you normally use to connect the camera directly to a TV. You will need an analog/digital bridge (Pinnacle Dazzle if you computer has only USB; Canopus if your computer has firewire).
Connect the camcorder to the A/D bridge with the AV cable - connect the A/D bridge to the computer with USB or firewire.

icon at the bottom of my screen that reads "safely remove hardware". Why don't I get a prompt that leads me on what to do next? I used a USB cord and the camcorder (Sony) has a memory stick with pictures stored. Why is this so damn complicated?

look in "my computer" for a removable hard drive the removable drive is more than likely your camcorder
