I have reeldirector app for my ipad and my camcorder records AVCHD on SD card, i have ipad camera connection kit (SD slot & USB) and when on holiday i would like to edit or store footage on ipad, if not possible what do i need to convert AVCHD footage to the format for reeldirector on ipad if using my iMac (preferably free)

There is no app available that can be downloaded and change the hardware in your phone, because that is what it has to do to improve either the video or audio qualities of your phone. If you want better video quality, use a camcorder, not a damn phone to shoot videos.
