I need to buy one but I am not sure which one to go for. I am primarily interested in videos but I don't want to compromise much on the photos either, so what would you suggest?
Thanks :)

Answer
-A camcorder is a device dedicated to the capture of video.
-A digital camera is a device made specifically for creating still images.
-Both can do the job of the other, depending on each individual camcorder or digital camera.

This line between camcorder and still camera has become skewed in the past few years with the advent of HD video capable DSLRs. Recent DSLR(Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras now are able to capture High-Definition video. It would be very appropriate at this time for camcorders to feel threatened because the quality is extremely high with the DSLR's still and video capture abilities. When a camcorder is used to take a still, it is really no match for a DSLR.

The quality of DSLR video is such that HD commercials have been made using them versus several thousand dollars worth of professional video equipment. If I recall correctly, I believe Hollywood might be shooting feature films using DSLRs. I know for a fact that the season finale of House was done entirely with a Canon 5D mk2 DSLR( http://trueslant.com/erikkain/2010/04/14/house-season-finale-shot-entirely-with-canon-5d-mark-ii-dslr-camera/ )

Also, here's an article and trailer for a short narrative film that was one of the first made using a DSLR( http://blog.livebooks.com/2010/01/movie-dslr-canon-markii-sundance/ )

Depending on your seriousness and budget, maybe you should look into entry-level DSLRs as even those come with HD video capture. I haven't been keeping up with DSLR news lately but I believe you'll have to make due with manual focusing with the current crop of cameras. Look it up.

Answer
You can consider buying Canon VIXIA HF S200 Flash Memory Camcorder - 2010 MODEL
Pros of the Canon VIXIA H S21/20/200 camcorders vs. the HDC-TM700:
- Sound quality seems a tad better, but not much
- 3" touch screen is much larger and has much, much higher resolution
- Menu structure is better
- Still image capability is significantly better
- Video gain functionis flat out excellent and can effectively be used to increase low light sensitivity, while reducing image noise drastically
- Two SDHC card slots
- Flash is more powerful
- Has a built in video light, even though it's meek
- Hot shoe layout is much better than Panasonic, but it's a Canon proprietary design, so you can only use Canon accesories
- The standard battery is not very large (last about 80-90 minutes) quite tricky to eject, especially when you have wet or sweaty hands. It doesn't come right out when you release the lock and is hard to pull out.
- The hand loop is very chintzy and permanently mounted to the camera body (cannot be replaced if it wears out). It is not big enough for larger hands and constantly a bother.
