best video camera for sports analysis image

I am looking for an HD Video Camera that can do 1080p, but also has some high speed functionality; not at the same time though. I know there are almost no high speed cameras that can shoot HD high speed, that aren't godly expensive. The high speed is for artistic not research purposes, which is why I'm not looking for something that can do 1000fps. Does anyone know of decent cameras under $500 that can have 1080p shooting and 120fps modes?

Most people who do motion analysis and slo-mo sports use miniDV for a good reason. miniDV is like motion picture film, that is it takes actual frames of video. Even better, it records successive fields so that you can get perfect half speed playback with no blur from interpolation. It can be slowed to 1/4 speed (120 fps equivalent) and not have noticeable jerk. Also because interpolation is not involved, using a high speed shutter setting, (like 1/1000 sec) insures sharp images at all times. miniDV does all this while using just the normal settings, so you can decide later what sections and how long to slo-mo.
Now consider consumer HD video. It is not suitable for motion, let alone slo-mo. The reason is just to shoot 30 fps, the H.264 format (AVCHD, MPEG4 etc) the camera records only one frame out of every 8 in succession, called a Group of Frames (GOF) of 8. GOK what is on the missing frames, and on playback they are "restored" by interpolation, a process that essentially blurs motion. the blur can't be corrected by shooting with a high speed shutter, it is an artifact of the decoding process. You may have already discovered this in trying to edit existing HD footage.
There is a work around with specially designed consumer cameras. They can shoot a 3 second burst of "high speed" which is buffered in its internal memory and then written back to the SD card, so it is not a continuous process and you have to decide when shooting when to start the burst. I say it is so-called high speed because what is actually done is it samples the CCD at the normal video rate (30 fps) but it keeps all the frames. then when played back with a GOF of 8, you get effectively 8 times the frame rate, or 240 fps. It doesn't fully resolve the blur issue because it still requires interpolation on playback, just like normal video. But should be adequate for artistic purpose.
I think Sony offers burst recording on some of its midrange ($500) camcorders.
